Dutch Days for Danny?

American, Danny Karbassiyoon is joining Dutch club AZ Alkmaar on trial from this Wednesday with a view to a permanent move.

Karbassiyoon, 21 will initially stay with Alkmaar until Sunday after being one of four players placed on the transfer-list by Clarets boss Steve Cotterill earlier this summer.

'I think they want some younger players to back up their first-team squad and I think that Danny Karbassiyoon comes into that category,' said Cotterill.

Danny was signed by the Clarets in the close season of 2005 on a two-year contract. Some rumours abounded at the time, that Steve Cotterill took the risk of signing the player on hearsay not having personally seen him play

The former Arsenal player, however made only six substitute's appearances for Burnley last season and was unable to break into the first team as a regular player. After a brief cameo in the pre-season friendly against Cheltenham, he sustained a mysterious injury which prevented him making an appearance in the early season matches. It seemed that first Harley and then utility player Branch reduced opportunities for Danny to play by the time he had returned to fitness and he always seemed to struggle in the few games he featured.

Danny started off his career as a forward before being groomed by Arsenal as a defender.

During his time at Burnley FC though it was widely believed he might be able to be used as a utility player being able to play in both defence and attack. It was not to be though and it looks like the Claret faithful will never be able to see if a fully fit Danny K would have made the grade!AZ Alkmaar came 2nd in the Dutch Premiership League last season to PSV Eindhoven. If Danny makes the grade with this club it will be bound to raise the question as to whether we have let a potential star slip through our fingers

No fee has yet been agreed for Karbassiyoon and it would be nice if the deal came off and we could get some money in the coffers to build the squad and find a Utility player as a replacement!

'We will obviously know a little bit more early next week after Danny's trial, which lasts until Sunday.' Steve Cotterill remarked

We wish him well and hope he succeeds in his trial with AZ Alkmaar

Good luck to him - hopefully he's found somewhere to fulfill his potential. Just didn't work out at Burnley I guess

According to the media ,danny failed to make an impression to the Dutch club . As he is still attached by a contract , I understand that he will haveto return to the club until he finds another club . In the beginning I strongly believed that he was a worthwhile signing and will bring something good to the club .
