The Clarets of course with two postponed games this month at home to Coventry and Middlesbrough because of the West Ham FA Cup change from this weekend to Monday night will be a couple of League games in hand come the month of March!
Our first game in hand came today. We had been scheduled to play Coventry at home this Saturday but we knew that would change after we progressed to the 5th Round of the FA Cup.
We were though expecting to play West Ham at the Boleyn Ground instead today in the FA Cup until ESPN stepped in demanding they cover the game live on Monday night instead. That decision also meant our Tuesday night home game against Middlesbrough had to be postponed until later in the season.
Although it is nice to have games in hand it is also better to have the points in the bag for psychological reasons so it was with some trepidation today that with no game for the Clarets we were forced to keep our beady eyes on our Championship rivals for promotion.
In the end we came out of it pretty well with nobody really stealing a march on the Clarets.
We even managed to stay in 8th place!
Leeds could only muster a home draw against the Canaries so remain in 6th spot now six points ahead of Burnley but having played a game more.
Millwall who could have gone above us today lost 3-2 at home to lowly Middlesbrough and are now one point behind us in 9th having also played a game more.
Watford too could only muster a draw away to Reading so are now two points behind the Clarets.
A lot of the clubs above the Clarets sort of canceelled each other out.
Forest beat Cardiff at home 2-1 and Swansea beat Doncaster at home 3-0.
QPR could only manage a point away to bottom club, Preston.
In the end then not too much damage and the table on Saturday night looked like this:
Npower Championship table
1 QPR 32 31 61
2 Nott'm Forest 31 16 56
3 Swansea 32 14 56
4 Cardiff 32 13 55
5 Norwich 32 10 55
6 Leeds 32 10 53
7 Leicester 32 2 51
8 Burnley 31 9 47
9 Millwall 32 8 46
10 Hull 32 4 46
11 Watford 31 10 45
12 Reading 32 11 44
