Burnley Cherry Pick Bartley
The Clarets made a late move for Bournemouth 24 year old midfielder, Marvin Bartley last night on the last day of the January transfer window and after the first bid was rejected Cherries chairman, Eddie Mitchell 'reluctantly agreed' an improved offer from former Bournemouth gaffer. Eddie Howe.
The deal left a bad taste in the mouth at Dean Court.
The Bournemouth chairman was furious also heavily criticising Bartley and his representatives for their handling of the move. Eddie Howe also came in for some stick over the timing off the offer especially since their former gaffer would clearly known what effect Bartley`s departure would have had on Bournemouth`s promotion chances.
Mitchell explained the bidding process:
"Burnley made their first offer between 5.30 and 5.45. What a time to come in. That bid was rejected, as was an improved one. They came back with another one and then changed their minds and reduced it. We negotiated somewhere between the two."
The initial offer was reported to be in the region of £300,000
The Clarets improved offer came just after 9pm and it is also understood we were in competition with Cardiff City to sign the player. The Bluebirds were also reported to have made a bid. The final transfer fee appears destined to remain 'undisclosed`
The deal was subject to the relevant paperwork meeting last night`s 11pm transfer deadline and has yet there has been no official confirmation from either club.
The Clarets then have made just two signings during the transfer window, Bartley follows the signing of Charlie Austin last week.
