Rumour Mill-Oh God Not Riordan Again!!

Just when you thought it was safe, Burnley are now said to once again be targeting Hibs' 28 year old striker, Derek Riordan.

How many times have we been linked with him in the past, especially during the Coyle era?

According the the Scottish Daily Record it is thought new Burnley boss Eddie Howe will approach the SPL club and bid £200,000 to take the forward to Turf Moor.

The Scottish international striker started his career at Hibernian in 2000 and also had a early loan spell at Cowdenbeath in 2003.

Riordan then signed for Celtic in a £170,000 deal in June 2006 but struggled to make an impression playing only 24 games for the Buoys over three years.

Burnley were continually linked with the player and reportedly put in a £400,000 offer in January 2008. Celtic though rejected offers from a number of clubs including the Clarets.

He returned to Hibernian for a second spell on the final day of the 2008 summer transfer window for an 'undisclosed' fee.

I could weep! lol

Scores about a goal in every 2-3 games though!

Who would you prefer tmp out of the three if you could only have two Thommo big Chris or Riordan all seem similar players but Riordan looks quicker than the two we have.
Fedupclaret
here we go again
totally_claret
A striker with pace is a must. Could do with him being big too, though. How tall is DR?
whentheballmoves
5ft 11 plus an half according to Wiki! Is that considered tall enough, wtbm? I remember seeing this lad on a You Tube compilation once and thought he looked impressive. Pacy and lethal in front of goal
turfmanphil
God question that Fedup! Riordan is probably more exciting and pacy up front than both Iwelumo and Thommo. Thommo though is probably better when given 90 mins instead of 20 min cameos from the bench. Iwelumo is a one-trick pony in my opinion and needs a partner up front. I would love to see Pato at his best again with Iwelumo in 4-4-2. A Iwelumo/Riordan partnership could be interesting too. We haven't even mentioned Jay Rod and gawd knows what would happen if we got Austin too!???
turfmanphil
Out of all of them you mentioned tmp i'd let Thommo and Iwelumo go just because of the age factor and keep Austin, Riordan, Pato and Jay Rod could see a few goals in them four.
Fedupclaret
Don't mention Jayrod...its not good for my blood pressure ffs

God question? lol

In answer to the God question, tmp, I had always thought the answer was 'maybe', or possibly '237.8'. Then I thought it was Coyle. Now I just don't know.

Assuming there is any truth in this rumour, I wonder how these things happen. Did Howe already have an eye on Riordan or did the club say take another look at him based on past interest? I think the answer to the Universe was 47 according to Douglas Adamsl
turfmanphil
It's about time we spent some of the Fletcher money on decent forward, Austin would be my choice out of the ones linked, who was the last player to score 20 plus goals in a season for us? Payton? Sign up Austin then sort out a tough, talking, tackling defender out someone like Chris Morgan springs to mind.

I agree 8c8, we really do need to make a statement and sign someone higher profile that other Prem and/or Champs clubs have been chasing, Austin certainly comes into that category. They should stop messing about and get Cork permanently signed up too

This guy sounds familiar haha next thing ya know Mr Driver will be doing the rounds again. lol
