Rumour Mill-Clarets Go Sammon Fishing?

Speculation in the Scottish Sunday papers today suggest Burnley could be interested in 24 year old Kilmarnock striker, Conor Sammon.

The Dublin-born Republic of Ireland Under 21 international has been scoring at the rate of about 1 goal in 4 games for the SPL side and has recently been linked with a £600,000 move to Championship rivals, Scunthorpe.

He rejected a move to Glanford Park last week denying this was because he hoped instead to move to Celtic.

"I do hear rumours but thats part and parcel of the transfer window with names being thrown about, said Sammon

"Ive no other offer and never had another one. When I went to Scunthorpe it was the only option I had but I didnt feel the move was right.

"I've got 18 months left on my deal and I'm happy to stay at Kilmarnock until the summer at least as I've never tried to get a move away"

It remains to be seen if the Clarets have indeed made an approach although the Scottish Sunday Mail suggest Burnley are considering making a £600,000 bid for the striker. Let's hope the media simply haven't got their wires crossed in view of the fact that Burnley and Scunthorpe both played each other on Saturday at Glanford Park which seems rather a co-incidence.

Sammon started his career with League of Ireland side, UCD in 2005 before joining LoI rivals, Derry City in December 2007.

Following a short trial at the club,Sammon signed for Kilmarnock in July 2008 for an undisclosed fee .
