Steve Clarke 8/1? Where did that come from?

Steve Clarke 8/1? Where did that come from?

New names enter the frame every day for the manager's vacancy at Turf Moor.

Victor Chandler now have Steve Clarke 8/1 to take over the job at Burnley.

Steve who?

Ah right some of you might not remember him, since he has yet to be a manager at any club.

He does though have some positive managerial reputation as an assistant!

In 1998 Clarke joined Newcastle United as assistant manager to Ruud Gullit, his former boss when a player at Chelsea. Clarke was caretaker manager following Gullit's resignation albeit for only one game.

After a stint in charge of the youth teams at Stamford Bridge, Clarke was promoted to the position of assistant manager when José Mourinho was appointed manager in the summer of 2004.

Clarke was a part of the coaching set-up which saw Chelsea win two Premier League titles, an FA Cup and two League Cups over three seasons under Mourinho so he aint that bad then?

The Scot then became West Ham's first-team coach in September 2008 under manager Gianfranco Zola. Following West Ham's struggle the following season in the top flight and the departure of Zola, Clarke left by mutual consent in June 2010.

He was a defender as a player and a Scotland international. Clarke, now 47 played for just two clubs during his professional career. He started with St Mirren in 1982 before joining Chelsea for £422,000 in February 1987.Clarke stayed at Chelsea until 1998, making 421 appearances.

Working along side José Mourinho has got to be a big plus besides is that not where Mourinho started working along side Bobby Robson.

I think if Clarke was that good, he wouldn't have been without a job in over six months and Mourinho would have offered him one by now

Trying to look on the plus side of things today, I will be back to normal tomorrow ;-)

That's two people placing a bet because he was on the list last time, hardly worth a mention surely :(

Got a LOT more experience than Eddie Howe, and has been reasonably high profile in the past. In contrast I had never heard of Victor Chandler till his recent ad campaign started on SKY. Don't discount the possibility that Victor's PR manager has suggsted putting out odds on some names that no-one else is listing to give Victor some free air time.

The only problem with that theory CP is you can get similar odds at all the other bookies ;-)
06/01/2011 16:50:00
Oh well, I'll ask Victor for my fiver anyway for giving him a mention!!!

What's going on with the LT they keep spanking the same old pony in relation to Watford's MM. Not my cup of tea but might drop a few quid on him tomorrow. I would be really interested in who top's a new list now Brown has gone to PNE, Howe looks like Palaces man and Houghtons dropped off our radar ..... Gone quite on the Big Sam front in the last 48 hours still hasn't done enough to distance him self from such a move for me so I remain hopefull, thats hopeful and not positive just dont think our board has the balls....and just looking at BK I'm not sure he would welcome an eight hour flight .... I could go do it if he wants.... reminds me of the damed united when the gezzer turns up on the beach with the contract for cloughy can imaging Big Sam in his Speedos ... with BK with his brown overcoat in the 100degree heat saying sign here sam
