Rumour Mill- Cort Out, Shittu In?

Millwall appear to be facing a fight to keep hold of Nigeria international defender, Danny Shittu.

The 30 year old's short-term contract expires next month but he could be leaving the Den on a free transfer when the January window opens.

It would appear he has a number of clubs interested in signing his services including Burnley. Championship rivals, Middlesbrough and Cardiff are also believed to be interested according to Sky Sports.

Greek side PAOK and an unnamed German club are also understood to be watching developments.

Bolton released Shittu from his contract in September 2010 and he then signed a three month contract with Millwall on the 20th October. He has impressed at the Den.

Shittu started his professional career with Charlton Athletic in 1999 but spent most of his time out on loan. He played on loan for Blackpool in 2001 before later that year joining QPR.

QPR acquired his services permanently for £350,000 in January 2002 and he spent over six years at Loftus Road. In August 2006 he was signed for £1.6 million by then Premiership newcomers Watford.

Shittu joined Premier League club Bolton Wanderers in August 2008 penning a three-year contract for £2m plus further add-ons after competition from Scottish Premier League club Rangers had failed.

Meanwhile Clarets defender, Leon Cort currently on loan at Deepdale could be considering a permanent move to Preston. Burnley though might not be able to get anywhere near the £1.5 million they paid Stoke City for his services in January 2010. Preston are struggling financially to make ends meet.

Cort was signed by Brian Laws and is currently under contract at Turf Moor until July 2013 after agreeing a three-and-a-half year deal>

Can't get excited about bringing *Shittu in. Does he really offer anything better than we got?

I think it would be a great signing, he is much better than Cort, a good solid defender and he knows where the back of the net is too, not sure where that would leave Edgar and Duff though?

I'd get Cort off the wage bill to be honest. I was listening to Radio Lancahsire after Leeds games and Preston fans were saying how brilliant Cort was, a man mountain of a defender. Did we send them somebody different? We do keep leaking soft goals, I'm not sure what the answer is but if *Shittu can help that I'd welcome him.

Just wonder if Bikey might be off and *Shittu is being lined up to replace him. Cort could be a red herring anyway! I think it's his name that puts me off!! lol ;-)

Lets get after Woodgate on loan, just what we need, Cardiff are already asking Harry about him, come on BL get after some quality. Not sure about *Shittu unless as TMP says, someone is leaving, which would not surprise me.

Have some sympathy with that idea, Cornwall. Woodgate is high-profile and its about time Burnley went for high-profile players. If Cardiff can,so can we. Time to remind folk we were in the Prem last season, at the moment you wouldn't have thought it

Local radio suggesting we might be in for a swop with Preston's St Ledger coming to Turf Moor and Cort gong to Deepdale on a permanent
