Rumour Mill-Murphy's Laws?

Rumour Mill-Murphy's Laws?

Burnley are tracking Scunthorpe goalkeeper Joe Murphy as a potential replacement for Brian Jensen according to the Daily Mail.

Jensen this week handed in a written transfer request after being unable to regain his place from current number one choice, Lee Grant.

Murphy,29 would be available for a nominal fee in January, as he only has six months left on his contract.

If the speculation is true though, the Clarets could face competition from Championship rivals, Doncaster and Coventry for his signature.

The Dublin-born Republic of Ireland international started his professional career with Tranmere Rovers in 1998. He had very brief spells at West Brom and Sunderland and in both cases was loaned out to Walsall for a time.

Sunderland released the keeper at the end of the 2005-6 season and he signed for Scunthorpe in May 2006.

And who was the Scunthorpe manager who signed him? None other than Brian Laws who spent ten years at the club first as a player and then gaffer. Laws left in November 2006 to take over the manager's job at Sheffield Wednesday

Murphy has since made over 170 appearances for the Iron.

Should now imagine every available keeper will now be linked with the Clarets in the media! This also in the Mirror- 'Coventry boss Aidy Boothroyd wants Scunthorpe keeper Joe Murphy - if he sells Keiren Westwood in the window. Boothroyd is keen to land highly-rated Murphy in a bargain deal as he prepares for Republic of Ireland international Westwood’s exit. Westwood could be sold as he will not renew his contract and ironically Murphy is available because he is also about to become a free agent with Scunthorpe in the summer. here' Westwood anybody? ;-)

The obvious link to Laws in a past life could give him an advantage but then we said that about Billy Sharp! If we get Murphy though that would mean two keepers who previously worked for Laws at another club! Intriguing who would win that one

Is it just me or is the January window going to be like last year? When I just found myself shaking my head continually not knowing wtf was going on!

Don't think we are allowed to know WTF is going on! ;-). I know what you mean though. Windows very rarely pan out like fans would like especially at our place! We need a tonic and that means some new faces coming here whilst we hold onto our key players. Jack Cork should be signed up the first day window opens but I bet they drag their heels hoping to keep him on loan till Summer when it will be even harder to keep him! Laws says Guidetti loan extension is top of his to-do list. Give me strength, if thats our limit we may as well give up now. We will see how ambitious we are when we compare ourselves with our rivals in the window but if past history is anything to go by we are due another disappointment

Don't know much about him, in fact nothing!! would he want to come here as a number two??
24/12/2010 12:21:00
Just seen Spurs could let Woodgate out on loan. This is what we want, get in there BL it could save your job.
