Rumour Mill-Gary Madine for Laws?

Burnley are believed to be monitoring Carlisle striker Gary Madine.

The 20-year-old was the subject of interest from Newcastle last summer and he is now on the radar of a number of Championship clubs including Sheffield United and Norwich as well as the Clarets. Reading too back in October 2010 were also reported to be interested and prepared to fork out 1 million for his services.

He came through Carlisle's youth system signing professionally for them in 2007. Madine signed a new three-year contract in June 2008 so he will be out-of-contract this summer.

Loan spells at Rochdale, Coventry and Chesterfield followed in 2009 and 2010 and if Madine achieves his ambition of playing in the Premier League in the next season or so he will be one of the youngest players ever to play in all 4 Leagues of the Football League.

Doesn't seem to be that prolific a scorer to be honest about 1-in-5 but enough clubs seem to think he has potential

Would he be better than Wes Fletcher and co? If so where would that leave them?

He sounds like one for the future when really we need someone for the present. I would have thought 8c8 Fletcher was just as good a prospect if not better although this Madine does have more competitive games under his belt.

The rumour was in Daily Mail by the way and nobody else seems to have picked it up. Probably nothing in it

Interesting one - I know he seems o be scoring one or two this season but still not sure he is the man we need.

I agree we should be looking at players that can do a job for us now, If that means opening the wallet then make it so.

Would you trust Laws to spend it wisely though or more to the point will the club?

I should have perhaps mentioned his height too! At 6ft 5ins Madine is just two inches shorter than Peter Crouch! Now that is what you call a target man as long as he can head it!!

Agree with 8c8 we need players now to get the team back on track and in the promotion race plus how many players are we going to lose in January. Also tmp makes a valid point reference giving Laws money to spend with him being under pressure to get the team winning again.

That is the million dollar question tmp which only the board can answer, I see it as two choices really either back him or sack him! But you can just see us going for a third option no backing and no sacking....

Agreed 8c8 that we need experienced players and up front a player who can not only head the ball into space but can also hold it up and lay it off. Not to mention also being a natural predator in front of goal. As for BL and the Board I would put my money on your third option. Another sneaking worry for me is have Eagles and Pato been kept out to keep them fit for transfer in Jan.

I would feel a lot happier if we were being linked with a couple of really good, solid, hard tackling defenders. We are just about scoring enough goals. The problem is we can't hold on to a lead.

True CC but we are missing a hell of a lot of chances. Plus the mistererious BL subs.
