Rumour Mill-Do Burnley have Bottle to keep Cork?

England Under 21 international midfielder, Jack Cork is currently on a season-long loan from Chelsea and Brian Laws has said that he is keen to make the deal permanent whenever possible.

The 21 year old still has 18 months left on his contract at Stamford Bridge but it is thought that the London club are now prepared to sell Cork if they receive the right offer.

Clarets fans are naturally impatient for the deal to be completed as soon as possible with the January window being the obvious earliest chance to seal the move.

Cork has continually impressed for the Clarets and many have been critical that we should have secured a permanent deal in the summer when he was believed to be available for 2 million.

The fear now is that his value will have increased and that we could also now be beaten to his signature by a Premier League club.

Speculation in the local papers this week suggested that at least one small Premier League club now had Cork on their radar.

The LT hinted that the club could be Blackpool since they were also interested last summer but the Daily Mirror this week was even more forthcoming.

It would appear Ian Holloway wants Chelsea to terminate Jack Cork`s loan spell at Turf Moor so they can buy him in the January window.

We are told that Cork is happy at Turf Moor after establishing himself as a key figure in the side. Only last month he said that he would be willing to join the Clarets on a permanent basis.

The Lancashire Telegraph also understands that he would rather stay with Burnley than switch to the Premier League club currently interested in him.

So do Burnley have the bottle to go for broke and do the business in the January window themselves? They might have been hoping to sign him at the end of the season but come on, get him signed-up now before he slips through our fingers.

I will be disgusted if this club doesn't do the business and gets Cork signed up. If we lose out now, they might live to regret their penny-pinching ways. Why the hell didn't they buy him in the Summer when they had the chance? They must surely have had 2 million spare too!! How many times are we going to lose out through lack of ambition and financial balls?

The club must make a bid to get Cork signed in the Jan transfer window if only for the fans.

He wants to stay at Burnley, so it looks like it's up to us to finalise the deal, hopefully sooner rather than later. My concern has always been that he'd attract the attention of other clubs . My other concern is that Fletcher wanted to stay at Burnley as well.

Have also spoken to a source and am hopeful this will be ok but, in fairness to the player, if he received a better offer from another club, even one at the top of the Championship, he would be mad not to consider it.

Would like to think that the board will buy him, but on past dealings I'm afraid we'll miss out again. still no balls on the board!

Anyone with an inkling of sense could see that his value would increase and other clubs would come sniffing. What does the player think, his loyalty seems to be with the Club but has he got the royalty of the Board ? From their lack of action so far it does not look like it. How can a thrifty Board think that spending possibly 3 mill in Jan be better than spending 2 mill in the summer. Is there some hidden agenda afoot.

There is an article on the Official website from Laws that quite frankly has me in despair (Laws Keen To Keep Cork In It) It sounds to me like they are hoping to let Cork see out his loan spell hoping nobody will come in for him. For heavens sake stop pfaffing about and sign him on Jan 1; all the forms should be ready for him to sign as soon as the Jan window opens. If Cork is so happy here he would sign em immediately Laws then says the top of his 'to do' list is to extend the loan of Guidetti. FFS we have to do better than that, either get shut of Laws or give him the money to bring in decent high-profile players before it's too late!

Sorry. I just can't see this board doing anything spectacular in the transfer window. They have shown in the past that their ambition is just above zero so the last thing we can expect is a high profile player coming in.
