Ice Say It's Snow Joke As Pompey Game Called Off!

There will be no Clarets game at the weekend following confirmation that our game at Fratton Park this Saturday has been postponed due to the inclement weather.

Portsmouth had taken precautions to try and ensure the match would proceed. The club confirmed only yesterday that the pitch was playable and that they were confident the match would go ahead. Although the club do not have under-soil heating, they do have frost covers and these were put over the pitch on Thursday last week

It was fears over safety though around the ground that are behind the match being postponed.

The snow has been falling heavily in Hampshire and with temperatures expected to drop to minus eight tonight, the heavy snowfall will turn to ice overnight raising issues about fans getting safely to and from the ground.

Pompey stadium manager Derek Stone said:

'It's disappointing because we all want to see the match go ahead, but safety is paramount.

'The stadium is under six inches of snow, including the stands, walkways and emergency exits - and more freezing weather is forecast.

'I cannot guarantee the safety of persons attending the stadium nor can I guarantee the safety of staff or helpers coming into the stadium to assist with any clearance.'

No new date has yet been fixed for the match but tickets for this weekend will still be valid for the rescheduled match in due course.

Well there's a surpise! Oh bugger what do I do now on Saturday, have a snowball fight?

It was inevitable, the area around the ground meant ticket office and megastore couldnt open today, and the area that would need clearing is too vast so the weather wins this one. 1-0 to god?
Midge
In a way Midge probably best for the fans in the long run. Did expect this anyway having seen the snow in Hampshire on the box. Not much fun for away fans trying to get to this game be it on icy roads or via public transport so now we can relax and think about summer!! lol

We have not been able to get the car out here for 3 days 18 inch of snow everywhere.
Grimsby Claret
I thought when you were in the PL you got loads of wonga to spend on under soil heating and new pitches.......perhaps its best they came down with us...maybe they can invest there parachute payments in a heater?......nurse
vinrogue
Im same as gimby 18 inch to two feet, where I am. Took me 3 hours to dig snow outt o park my car on my street! I'm not sure if missing the pompey game is a good thing or bad thing?
skutter169
One thing about missing games is the psychological effect of dropping down the table if other teams get above us! I know we then have a game advantage over them but the onus is then on us to win it and often we fluff it. Still don't expect many games to go ahead over weekend
turfmanphil
Wow, well done, Phil: you have even managed to find doom and gloom in a game being snowed off. Quite an achievement!

Hoping the rearranged fixture is not on a weeknight, as I'll almost certainly be having to abandon my ticket if that happens. I'll bet the players are frustrated too, at having to defer our first away win for another 2 weeks. But won't it be great when we do it in Cardiff!
Couch Potato
Well at least we got winter break. Even if it is short it must please somebody.
cornwallclaret
Was hoping to get to this game, then couldn't so it doesn't worry me too much apart from wanting to see us win back to back and keep the momentum going. The QPR match has been cancelled as well as a few others, with more to follow during today.

I would think CP the chances are highly stacked in favour of a midweek game unless both Burnley & Pompey get knocked out of the FA Cup and we can do it on a FA Cup weekend instead.

Wonder if the Pools panel will be sitting
