Rumour Mill-Mears linked with Marseille

Marseille first-choice right-back Cesar Azpilicueta has been ruled out for six months with a torn anterior cruciate ligament injury and it is thought the club's manager, Didier Deschamps is targetinng Burnley right back,Tyrone Mears in the January window as a replacement.

The 27-year-old made four appearances for French Ligue 1 Marseille during a season-long loan spell at Stade Velodrome in 2008/09. He would have played more games had it not been for injury.

Mears, who scored his first goal for the Clarets at Turf Moor on Saturday against his former club,Derby County appears to be in demand again.

Stoke City were reported to be interested in Mears along with central defender, Andre Bikey.

Tyrone Mears was expected to leave in the summer for a Premier League club but nothing materialised and he now seems to be settled in the Championship and back on form for the Clarets.

Big question is does Mears want to go or is he settled, especially if we are still in with a shot of getting back in Prem come Jan?

I think we would have to be at least top 4 come the January sales to have any chance of him thinking his future is with us. From all accounts he made it clear at the end of last season he wanted better than the Championship, just like Eagles did. January will be a tough time for us all, Mears Eagles and Bikey must be kept at all costs imo.

If he wants out there is little we can do but he seemed to be settled, just hope these rumourmongers ie troublemakers are wrong

We must put a very high transfer fee on their heads eg silly Millions to put clubs off, If on the other hand they offer more than they are worth we may be better selling???

Mears looks settled and is enjoying his games with us at the moment. We need to keep winning though, so that Mears, Eagles and Bikey remain focused on the very real possibility of getting back in the prem next year. Still think we'll do it via the automatic spots.

We would need to have sound replacements lined up if we were to cash in. Is our tallent scouting team up to it? Is Laws looking? It's a bit unsettling.

I will stick my head out and say he will stay at Burnley

Hope you are right TC bearing in mind AH's comment above yours

If Marseille want him, I think he will go. They are still in the Champions League and in with a chance of getting to the knock out stages? Top of the French Division 1. If they came knocking at his door he would be off....imo
vinrogue
Would he get a regular game though? Their interest seems to stem from the fact their key right back is injured so what would happen when he returns? Difficult to know what Mears would do, might he not be tempted more by a move to Prem club Stoke?

Fletcher at Wolves, Blake at notloB, Caldwell at Wigan all well paid bench warmers, I think that answers your question....money talks ask Russia and Qatar!
vinrogue
We should have money by now,it's a scandal that we haven't got it if that's the case after a year in the top flight! £14.4 million profit? Yeah right! Oh well,it might all blow over again but if it doesn't I just hope this club is seeking a contingency replacement and can move quickly in the Jan window. I would not have much confidence in the current alternatives unless Duff is being considered. Eckersley doesn't look ready yet
