Iron want to extend Big Kev's loan

Iron want to extend Big Kev's loan

Clarets midfielder, Kevin McDonald joined Scunthorpe United in mid-October initially on a one-month loan but soon had to return to Turf Moor after picking up a back injury during training.

He recovered and returned to Glanford Park recently and on Saturday he started his first game for the club.

Big Kev even scored a goal but it was not enough with The Iron going down 4-2 at home to automatic promosion chasing Cardiff City.

The 22-year-old's initial loan is due to expire this week but Scunthorpe are hopeful of extending the loan spell.

Scunthorpe gaffer, Ian Baraclough intends to speak to Brian Laws this week regarding the possibility of an extension.

Baraclough speaking on the club's official website said:

'Kevin McDonald hasn't been fit enough to start a game up to now, but I felt he and Michael O'Connor imposed themselves in midfield.

'I'd like to extend his loan. He's got good qualities and if fully fit he will be a fantastic player.

'I will speak to Kevin and Brian. He knows he has a chance of playing games here while he might not at Burnley.

'I'll see what Brian says, but hopefully we can keep him for another month.'

May as well stay at Glanford Park for the moment

Agree again TMP. I see the logic from those such as Fedup who feel he should be on our bench as we MAY need him to try and input something into the team. Personally I just feel more benefit can be gained from him getting some real game time. Is he out of contract in the summer?

Yep,just checked who is out of contract in Summer and Big Kev is one of six- Chris McCann 06/2011 , Kevin McDonald 06/2011 , Wade Elliott 06/2011 , Chris Eagles 06/2011 , Jay Rodriguez 06/2011 , Remco Van Der Schaaf 06/2011 (lol)

Think this will benefit all parties. Big Kev wouldn't get a game with us at the moment and the discipline of regular first-team football may just give him the opportunity he needs to knuckle down and show what we all suspect he is capable of. Presumably, if he is still at Scunthorpe, he wouldn't be eligible to lay against us in our forthcoming fixtures against The Iron ?

Do agree with all the comments and understand why he's at Scunny but he may be one of the players that needs to be wanted and being on the bench could do that, its kind of like Eagles at the start of the season after coming on from the bench got his confidence back and now he's a regular starter. Also with is contract up at the end of the season should he be at the club showing the management team its worth investing in him with a new contract, very worried we could lose a very talented player at the end of the season.

I know what you mean Fedup, and I wrote a similar article in WTBM early this season. Kev has shown glimpses that he could be a very talented player, but their have also been far to many games where he simply hasnt performed. I hope I am wrong but it could be we never see the best of Kev in a Burnley shirt.

TMP their have been some updates to those contract dates - Eagles signed a new contract in August, did Chris Mc also not put pen to paper?( not sure about this one) Surprised to see Wade on that list, cant believe how quick it has gone since he signed his last contract ( March 08 is it?). Will he be offered a new one? I hope so. Funnily enough I just laughed when I saw Remco on our squad list on the official site - What is he actually doing now?

Fair comment Dale but you could say that about a few of the first team squad this season, for me the future of BFC are players like big Mac not Alexander and whether he gets another chance with BL only time will tell.

Probably Fedup - I cannot see Grezza playing past this year. As I say, I really do like and their is so much of his game to admire. But something, somewhere isnt right with him. He has struggled to really get a real run of games - I dont remember him starting many consecutive games. If he can spend say until January at Scunny, starting every week - We could see what he is really capable of in January? Come the second half of the season, and on form Kev Mc WOULD be a real asset!
