Iron want to extend Big Kev's loan

Clarets midfielder, Kevin McDonald joined Scunthorpe United in mid-October initially on a one-month loan but soon had to return to Turf Moor after picking up a back injury during training.

He recovered and returned to Glanford Park recently and on Saturday he started his first game for the club.

Big Kev even scored a goal but it was not enough with The Iron going down 4-2 at home to automatic promosion chasing Cardiff City.

The 22-year-old's initial loan is due to expire this week but Scunthorpe are hopeful of extending the loan spell.

Scunthorpe gaffer, Ian Baraclough intends to speak to Brian Laws this week regarding the possibility of an extension.

Baraclough speaking on the club's official website said:

'Kevin McDonald hasn't been fit enough to start a game up to now, but I felt he and Michael O'Connor imposed themselves in midfield.

'I'd like to extend his loan. He's got good qualities and if fully fit he will be a fantastic player.

'I will speak to Kevin and Brian. He knows he has a chance of playing games here while he might not at Burnley.

'I'll see what Brian says, but hopefully we can keep him for another month.'

May as well stay at Glanford Park for the moment

Agree again TMP. I see the logic from those such as Fedup who feel he should be on our bench as we MAY need him to try and input something into the team. Personally I just feel more benefit can be gained from him getting some real game time. Is he out of contract in the summer?

Yep,just checked who is out of contract in Summer and Big Kev is one of six- Chris McCann 06/2011 , Kevin McDonald 06/2011 , Wade Elliott 06/2011 , Chris Eagles 06/2011 , Jay Rodriguez 06/2011 , Remco Van Der Schaaf 06/2011 (lol)

Think this will benefit all parties. Big Kev wouldn't get a game with us at the moment and the discipline of regular first-team football may just give him the opportunity he needs to knuckle down and show what we all suspect he is capable of. Presumably, if he is still at Scunthorpe, he wouldn't be eligible to lay against us in our forthcoming fixtures against The Iron ?

Do agree with all the comments and understand why he's at Scunny but he may be one of the players that needs to be wanted and being on the bench could do that, its kind of like Eagles at the start of the season after coming on from the bench got his confidence back and now he's a regular starter. Also with is contract up at the end of the season should he be at the club showing the management team its worth investing in him with a new contract, very worried we could lose a very talented player at the end of the season.

I know what you mean Fedup, and I wrote a similar article in WTBM early this season. Kev has shown glimpses that he could be a very talented player, but their have also been far to many games where he simply hasnt performed. I hope I am wrong but it could be we never see the best of Kev in a Burnley shirt.

TMP their have been some updates to those contract dates - Eagles signed a new contract in August, did Chris Mc also not put pen to paper?( not sure about this one) Surprised to see Wade on that list, cant believe how quick it has gone since he signed his last contract ( March 08 is it?). Will he be offered a new one? I hope so. Funnily enough I just laughed when I saw Remco on our squad list on the official site - What is he actually doing now?

Fair comment Dale but you could say that about a few of the first team squad this season, for me the future of BFC are players like big Mac not Alexander and whether he gets another chance with BL only time will tell.

Probably Fedup - I cannot see Grezza playing past this year. As I say, I really do like and their is so much of his game to admire. But something, somewhere isnt right with him. He has struggled to really get a real run of games - I dont remember him starting many consecutive games. If he can spend say until January at Scunny, starting every week - We could see what he is really capable of in January? Come the second half of the season, and on form Kev Mc WOULD be a real asset!

I think you are right about Eagles and McCann re new contracts. Thinking about it, Laws said he was also trying to sort out two more along with JayRod but didn't reveal who. Looking at the list, I wonder if that means the other two are Elliott and Big Kev? Yep Remco was a bit funny, hence my lol. Think he is technically still on loan at Brøndby. In January 2010, Remco van der Schaaf once again signed on loan for Brøndby IF on a one and a half year contract, thus seeing out his contract with Burnley.

You just wonder if Laws and Big Kev patched up their differences after McDonald's jaunt in the KSC 110 club when he stormed off at half-time during the Citeh trouncing last season. Does he feature long-term in Laws plans? Only time will tell

I am 99% sure Eagles signed for two years this summer. But I can't remember whether Chris McCann signed a new deal or there was just talk about discussing it. Wado's Mum told me at Emirates when we were there for the FA Cup that he wnats to stay on the Turf for the rest of his career.

Will need to check back, Eagles definitely signed a new contract since that was how we took away the speculation he was leaving! If McCann didn't sign and assuming we want to keep Elliott, could that mean they have given up on extending Big Kev's contract? Jay Rod and two others Laws said

Eagles definately signed a new contract. It was a two year deal but effectively replaced this years deal so it runs out in 2012. He got better terms for this year and an extra year. There was talk of McCann getting a new contract but I've never seen it printed that he actually signed. Have to wait and see what happens with big kev, at min I suspect were looking at new contracts for elliott, jay rod and McCann.

If laws is not keeping Mcdonald, he needs to sell him now, so we make a few Bob.

Eagles signed an extension to his contract of 1 or 2 years, I'm fairly certain. Rodriguez was in talks too, I think? Elliott will be a tough call. McCann has to prove his fitness, too. Big Kev has to show his head's right, as much as anything else.

Seems to be a lot of confusion over the Eagles deal, I was under the impression that he signed a twelve month extention thus leaving him in the postion next summer that he was this summer with twelve months left on his contract.

Let big Kev play at Scunny because if he does well we will get a few bob for him in January or be able to bring him back into the bosom of his beloved club. Either way its a bit like BL will he ever be forgiven and loved? Will BL ever be the reincarnation of the horse faced lying porridge one? Who knows....nurse!

Just found our VB article on the Eagles situation...Chris Eagles is Staying!-25th Aug 2010: Clarets fans will be delighted to hear that Chris Eagles will be staying at Turf Moor after agreeing a new contract that will keep him at the club until June 2012....

Big Kev will know by now whether or not Laws wants him or not. Personally I hope Laws has told him that he's a big part of the future and to carry on getting game time while on loan. I also hope he's told him not to go to the KSC until 5.00pm.

Is that not what I said tmp lol, anyway which ever way we look at it we are stronger than we were a few seasons ago no denying and a strong youth team coming through, what needs to be addressed is our best line-up and formation, the latter more so...

Oi 8c8! Did I not say it about 3,000 posts above this one!!! :-) Anyway, I see Vin's nurse is back. Could someone please research when she (or he?) was last on VB? I was getting worried about her (or him?). Also, have we clarified yet whether Chris McCann has signed a contract extension or just talked about it? What must the Board be thinking if they are reading this thread!!! FAN THREAD FALLS APART IN CONTRACT DISPUTE SHAMBLES?
