'If It's Football, It's Vital'

Good Week for JayRod!

Jay Rodriguez has been in the news this week and its all positive stuff! The 21-year-old striker has attracted the attention of England U21 boss Stuart Pearce and he could now be selected in the squad for their friendly in Germany on 16th November. Rodriguez was watched by Pearce in Saturday`s 1-1 draw with QPR at Loftus Road; a game in which he played well having a number of attempts on goal.

Rodriguez has recently made an impression for the Clarets becoming a regular first team choice with three goals to his name already so far. That goal tally could have been significantly more based on the last few games with a mixture of the woodwork and goalkeepers in top form denying the young striker.

Brian Laws is of course delighted by the news and told Sky Sports:

'We are obviously delighted with Jay's progress this season and I think, at this moment in time, he's in good form.

'It's no surprise that the likes of Stuart Pearce and the England U21s are looking at him because he is at the right age of talent that England are looking for.

'The progress he has made has obviously catapulted him into the eyes of the England U21s and to get recognition already - by being looked at - suggests he is going in the right direction.

'We just have to make sure he keeps progressing and doing the things he is doing and hopefully he will get that recognition with a call-up.'

Almost on cue it was then revealed a few days later that the club were close to extending Jay Rod`s contract with negotiations well-advanced. It was announced last month that negotiations had started. Rodriguez`s current contract expires in the summer.

Brian Laws taking about Rodriguez`s potential third professional contract with the club said:

"Things are moving rapidly forward. We`re hoping to make an announcement on that very shortly,"
