PNE Want Grezza Back? Dont Be Silly!!

PNE Want Grezza Back? Dont Be Silly!!

Graham Alexander was linked with a return to his former club Preston North End over the weekend but such tabloid rumours seem wide of the mark. The Lancashire Telegraph today also seem to have poured cold water on the speculation stating that they understand such a move is not on the cards.

The 39-year-old has recently struggled to make Burnley's starting eleven with Jack Cork now increasingly being used in the holding midfield role. Alexander is now a regular bench warmer despite being club captain. His last match in the starting eleven was against Bristol City at home back in September. It was an unfortunate game for Grezza since he also missed his first penalty for the Clarets and seemed sadly off the pace.

He has a much wider role at the club though also being player-coach as well as being captain.

Grezza may be struggling as a player at the moment and at his age that is probably inevitable. I am sure Burnley FC though are looking more at his potential as a coach longer-term and it would seem foolish to let him leave the club at this stage of his managerial development.

I suppose it would be an option if Grezza was that desperate to play first team football but then he is still not totally out of the frame playing for the Clarets. He is consistently on the bench and last came on against Barnsley at Turf Moor only last week albeit for only the last few minutes.

This is a weird one. If I was Grezza, coming to the end of my career I would want to play as much as I possibly could as this is probably my last chance. I think we all feel Grezza could be a big person at the club as coach ( or whatever) and we do want to retain his services - but should we stop him having one last season of regular football? Daft as it may sound - Is a loan out an option?

Would Preston really give him more football in the Championship than Burnley? In a way that maybe shows how desperate they are. I remain to be convinced that Grezza still has it in him this season. He has clearly struggled on the pitch but I hope I have to eat my words, which wont be the first time as far as Alexander is concerned

I would imagine they would Phil - Burnley should be challening at the top end of the table whereas PNE will be down tother end.
