Clarets International-Iwelumo Doubt for Scotland

Chris Iwelumo

Iwelumo had been named in Scotland's squad for the Euro 2014 qualifiers to be played during the September international break. The Scots play Lithuania away on Friday 3rd September followed by their first home game of the competition against Liechtenstein at Hampden Park on Tuesday 7th September.

Scotland manager, Craig Levein though will now be disappointed to hear that he may have to do without Iwelumo's services following news that the tall striker picked up a hamstring injury late on in the match yesterday against Swansea at the Liberty Stadium.

Brian Laws talking about Iwelumo's unfortunate tweaked hamstring said:

'We will have to assess what Chris is like but I would say it is highly unlikely he will go with Scotland during the international break'

Jack Cork

You may have missed the news that our on-loan midfielder from Chelsea, Jack Cork has been selected by Stuart Pearce for the England Under 21 squad. The Young Lions play two crucial European qualifying games during the September international break. They face Portugal in Barcelos on Friday 3rd September before playing Lithuania at Colchester's ground on Tuesday 7th September.

They have to win both these games to keep their hopes of qualifying for the Summer 2011 finals alive.

Jack Cork has already played in an England Under-21 friendly this summer before he joined the Clarets on a season-long loan so he will be pleased to have retained his place

Let's hope Chris is ready to play by the time we play Preston after the international break. Could Laws be tempted to sign a striker as cover with just three days of the transfer window remaining?

This is why i keep saying we need a number 1 key striker that is proven & premier level who at the moment is bench warming & dont say robbie blake, on a serious note please brial laws act before its to late

Confirmed he is now out of Scotland squad and may even be doubtful for Preston match! Buy a striker Lawsy while we still can!!

I am not arguing with the point being made about a 'top quality' striker - but do we need a 5th striker in our squad, when we are only playing 1 up?
