Chris Eagles is Staying!

Clarets fans will be delighted to hear that Chris Eagles will be staying at Turf Moor after agreeing a new contract that will keep him at the club until June 2012. Speculation had been fuelled this week that Celtic could succeed where Rangers had failed offering Eagles a better salary than Rangers. Eagles turned down Rangers in the summer after the two clubs had agreed a fee of £2 million and there had been some concern that the club could lose out him altogether financially with his contract running out next summer when he could have left on a Bosman.

Eagles had made it plain that he wanted to play Premier League football and looked set to leave but apart from the bid by SPL club, Rangers and despite links to numerous Premier League clubs, there has been no movement and Eagles seems to have had a change of heart.

Brian Laws taking about the new contract said:

"He`s going to stay with us and that`s great news for the fans and the football club because, quite clearly, he`s got the talent,

"It`s really pleasing that he`s committed himself and it quashes any kind of rumours that are going round about Celtic or Rangers.

"He wants to stay at Burnley and that`s good enough for us."

Nice one and unexpected although I was beginning to wonder!

Me too Phil - particularly after some Coyle-Style waving to the fans after last night's game at Morecambe.

Good lad!! I did think he'd go in the back of my mind.

As someone said in another thread, it's almost as good as a new signing when you consider that a lot of us thought he'd go. Let's sort out Mears now - will he stay or will he go?

Mears looked disinterested at the weekend against Leicester imo. Shame but if that is the case he needs to go.

If Mears wants out, we'll need another right back, as Eckersley - after a good started - pressed the "self-destruct" button again last night...

I'm glad he's signed. I don't think we could buy a better replacement for him, so I'm happy to keep him.

Great player on his day but needs to be more consistent. Last season he seemed to drift out of games and look disinterested.

As posted above I think that just leaves Mears who wants to leave before the deadline, I would be happy for a twist in the tail and for laws to sign Mears replacement today!

CHRIS Eagles says he couldn’t bear to leave Burnley, because he’s prepared to ‘die for his team-mates’ on the pitch.
