Burnley X-Files: Caldwell Signs for Wigan

Former Burnley captain, Steven Caldwell who was released by Brian Laws in the summer has today signed for Premier League club Wigan.

He has signed a one year contract and will now join up with brother Gary who is also at the club.

The Scottish international free agent has impressed Roberto Martinez during the last few weeks whilst on trial at the DW Stadium and the 29 year old is now available to make his debut this week against Hartlepool at Victoria Park in the Carling Cup on Tuesday night.

Could be competing with his own brother for a centre back spot! Still all the best Steven!

Good luck to him. I still think he could have done a good job for us but Laws thought otherwise.

I'll third that ruane! But he's going to have his work cut out for him at Wigan, if thier first two games, and last season's goals conceed are anything to go by.

IMO he was to slow and cumbersome for my liking, but I wish Steve all the best at Wigan as he will need it

Oi! My comment 'I'll third that ruane!' doesn't make sense any more now that the duplicate of ruane's comment has been deleted!!!

Dont think he is good enough for the prem. but hope he does well.

At least he's used to playing in a team that losesd a lot!!!! Wish him good luck though. He wasn't that bad.

Two players released now plying their trade in the Premiership, I am not quite sure which way I should look at that?

Acid test 8c8 will be if any of them get a chance to play! Blake came on from bench for two minutes for Bolton in their last match! Yeah right, bet that keeps him happy

You have to ask yourself the question would Caldwell get in our team. Honestly no. Bikey, Carlisle and Edgar are all ahead of him IMO. It would be a toss up between him and Cort as they are both too slow. Oh we didn't want Blake to leave that was his choice, after he turned down a contract.

I forgot Duff as well!! Its because he's injured, sorry Duffo. Caldwell would be behind him too.

Steven caldwell was a great team player but no speed, got turned to easy by faster more skillfull players. will not be a regular in the wigan team but a back up. we would beat wigan easily at the moment, with our present team plus a class forward we would survive in the premiership
