For Eaves a Jolly Good Fellow?

Young Oldham striker, Tom Eaves is on Brian Laws radar.

The 18 year old started his youth career at Crewe before moving to Oldham Athletic in 2007 as a 15 year old and joining their Centre of Excellence.

He made 15 appearances last season as a substitute without getting on the scoresheet but appears to have caught the eye of a number of local North West clubs including Bolton Blackpool and Blacburn in the Premier League and Preston North End in the Championship.

Bolton may well have also been impressed by the hat-trick he scored against them in a pre-season friendly last week.

Young Oldham striker, Tom Eaves is on Brian Laws radar in addition to Rochdale's Craig Dawson.

Laws quoted in the Lancashire Telegraph has confirmed his interest in both players,

"I`ve looked at Tom Eaves (at Oldham). There are many players I`ve looked at.

"It would be remiss of us not to have a look at them, followed on by a lot of clubs that will be looking at the same players and picking up the same things out there in the UK.

"It`s very expensive to get the finished article, and therefore you`ve got to have a look around and see if there are any rough diamonds out there, and you look in the lower leagues to see if anything`s coming through.

"There are always one or two that will get through and do a fantastic job and be very successful.

"We are looking those areas. I`m not saying we`re going to make any moves on anybody, but we are looking."

On Dawson he said:

"He`s just one of a number of players we`ve been looking at.

"He has stood out as a young candidate who has potentially got what it takes.

"We have an abundance of centre halves, but he`s a young player who possibly could be in that category.

"However, I`m not saying for one minute that we`ve done anything about it either, but the interest has been there.

Newcastle United, Everton, Wigan Athletic and West ham are also said to be interested in him.

Will be a catch if he's that good and doesn't go to a Prem club!!
turfmanphil
We need someone who will do the job in defence, guarenteed. If C Carlisle can repeat his previous Championship form not a great problem but surely we are looking at a permanent return to the Prem.

Wasnt one of the criticism of Owens signings that he signed to many players 'for the future'?
claretdale
Signed for Bolton today (12th August) on a 3 year deal...
