The Clarets will be hoping to maintain their pre-season form in the final game of their Singapore tour today(Saturday 24th July) With two wins away to Bury and Oldham before they flew out to the Far East followed by two thumping 5-0 victories over Gombak United and Home United this week, the lads will be hoping to make it a fifth consecutive win as they prepare for their third and final game in Singapore.
Their final match is an inaugral Freight Investor Services (FIS) Asian Challenge Cup game against a Singapore Selection X1 The Singapore national coach, Raddy Avramovich has named a 22 man squad for the clash tonight which kicks off at 7:30pm local time (12:30pm UK time) in the Jalan Besar Stadium. The Singapore team`s captain will be 19 year old midfielder, Hariss Harun who three years ago became the youngest ever Singapore international. The rest of the team will be made up mainly from Singapore Under 23 internationals.
The cup game rules dictate that only seven substitutes will be allowed and should the scores be level after 90 minutes, a penalty shoot out will decide the winner. A Cup has also been specially commissioned for the winners to hold aloft!
The Jalan Besar Stadium has a pitch made from 3G Astroturf and this could have a bearing on Laws team selection. The strict substitution rule means that youngsters Wes Fletcher and Alex-Ray Harvey are unlikely to feature but both have had a successful pre-season and look close to breaking through into the first team once the 2010-11 Season gets underway on the 7th August.
Slight knocks will continue to keep Chris McCann and Martin Paterson sidelined as a precaution. The pitch also means that Chris Iwelumo and Tyrone Mears will not be risked.
Let`s hope the Clarets who fly back to the UK on Monday end their tour on a high note. August the 7th is getting closer and closer and there is now currently just one remaining scheduled friendly after today to be played against Stoke on Saturday 31st July (Kick-Off 3pm). This is a 'home` game for the Clarets but was moved to the Galpharm Stadium in Huddersfield whilst the pitch improvements at Turf Moor are completed in time for the season kick-off game at home to Nottingham Forest a week later. Brian Laws though could arrange another friendly before the season kicks-off due to the Accrington match at the Crown Ground scheduled for next Tuesday night being called off due to the local inclement weather affecting pitch improvements.
