No Going Backy to Accy!!

The now traditional pre-season friendly between Accrington Stanley and Burnley, scheduled for next Tuesday will now not go ahead afterall due to pitch problems at the Crown Ground.

The ground suffered heavily last season due to the inclement weather with a number of Clarets Reserves fixtures scheduled to be played there having to be postponed.

Heavy rain this time has slowed down the pitch improvements underway at the Crown Ground so the two clubs have agreed to call off their friendly.

Brian Laws however is hoping to schedule another pre-season friendly when his squad returns from their tour of Singapore on Monday.

Accy will lose a bit of money I guess but let's hope they can sort out these pitch problems once and for all soon. They are trying though! Stanley chief executive Rob Heys confirmed: “Over £70,000 has been spent on improving the pitch this season with the levelling of the surface and the installation of a new drainage and sprinkler system. “While we were very keen to get the game on in terms of bringing some money into the club, we have taken a longer term view and after discussions with the pitch contractors have decided that the sensible way forward is to allow a further ten days or so before it is played on to ensure that we do not do anything to jeopardise the work that has gone into making what will be the best playing surface ever at the Crown Ground.” LT-Thurs 22nd July

I just wonder if this could have been played elsewhere - a local non league ground maybe? or would these not have been big enough? How are the finance at Accy these days - I am sure they arent flush? But are they still in trouble?
