Rumour Mill-Back in for Lee Grant?

The Clarets have been looking to sign a new goalkeeper all summer and have been linked with a number of players.

Sheffield Wednesday keeper, Lee Grant was an early target according to the media and he seemed the obvious choice based on Brian Laws links with Hillsborough as their former manager.

However the interest was never confirmed and speculation moved on. Andy Lonergan was thought to be on Laws radar at one point but the Preston keeper remained firmly at Deepdale following news that our target was actuallly Fraser Forster. The Newcastle stopper who enjoyed a successful spell on loan to Norwich last season was thought to be on his way to Turf Moor on a season-long loan but talks appear to have stalled.

Brian Laws therefore has changed tack and according to Sky Sports is now understood to have set his sights on the highly-rated Lee Grant. He is now hoping to tie up a deal for the 27 year old but could face competition from Celtic and West Brom.

According to Sky Sports talks are ongoing between both clubs as they look to thrash out a fee for Grant.

I hope this is true! Sky Sports have more street cred so let's hope a deal can be struck! Better bet for me than a loan!
turfmanphil
I agree. I would much rather sign a goalie than loan one.
ClaretClaude
Beebwww reports today that PNE have turned down three Baggie bids for Lonergan, and that Fergie Jr 'doesn't want to sell him' and values him at £20million.
Couch Potato
Totally agree lets get a goalkeeper signed instead of a loan player far better in the long run.
Fedupclaret
Agree with the above sentiments. Couldn't see the sense in a loan deal, let's buy instead, and Grant is a good 'un.
WelshClaret
Personally , I would'nt care if it's a loan or a signing as long as he is a good one !
Bernie Lee
keep ya filthy paws off him. lol. 2million and he will probably be yours
mick66owl
Daily Mail saying-Burnley have made their long-predicted approach for Lee Grant. The Clarets have submitted an offer, believed to be around £1m in total, for the former England Under-21 international....
turfmanphil
get it done, that and a out and out goal poaher with PACE
ClaretTricks
you can have tudgay as well
mick66owl
MICK66OWL .... How good is he on a 1 to 10 ? forget price quality's remembered long after price is forgotten?
hollinsclaret
If you go on Owls Talk there is a thread of 30 or so comments and not one of them is passe. They all rate Grant as a major asset and would be disappointed to see him go...
cubanclaret
Why would he go to a tin pot club with a verry poor manager temporarily punching above their weight.
Radon Barrier
Haha. I've just realised that Radon is going round posting exactly the same message on different threads. Why don't you write a letter to the Burnley express so everyone in Burnley knows you think we are a tin-pot club? Loser.
ClaretClaude
According to Vital Owls; 'Wednesday have rejected a bid from Burnley to sign goalkeeper Lee Grant according to reports today, but West Brom may be moving in on the Owls' number one. The Turf Moor club, managed by former Owls boss Brian Laws, were reported to have made a bid for Grant's services yesterday. But talk from Lancashire this morning points towards Wednesday rejecting the Clarets' initial offer, which is understood to be around the £1 million mark.'
turfmanphil
Can't we afford more than £1 million then ???
WelshClaret
I've just done it on the two CC. Only come on this one cos you didn't reply to the other. Can't believe you have called me a loser. I feel a bit upset now, you've hurt my feelings. Still - never realised Burnley had its own paper, thought you had to read the Bolton Evening News.
Radon Barrier
Radon naff off. If you spend your life posting on other clubs boards insulting them what a sad individual you are. Anyway Grant would be a good signing in my opinion, Welsh yes I think we can afford more than one million but its like buying a car, you go in low and work your way up. If the club is serious probably end up around two million.
skutter169
randon causing crap on other sites as per usual. only a scummy LEAGUE 1 club like yourselves could possibly imagine you are so much better than you actually are. fact is no one is going to pay anymore than 1m maybe 1.5m for a league 1 keeper. burnley lads - just ignore this poor relation pig fan!! and the rest ov em.
bladesforlife1889
what a surprise pigforlife makes an appearance on here mind you its school holidaytime again
mick66owl
hollinsclaret- 6/7overall, very good reaction shot stopper 8- coming off his line and sweeping up -5. coming out for crosses- 3/4. decision making -5. communication -4 overall 1.5 to 2million at todays rates you will get a good keeper and on the plus side when he arrived at hillsboro he would have been lucky to get a 3/4 overall and half the other scores too .
mick66owl
Wednesday have been handed a winding up order by the Tax man. They owe £550,000. Lads we'll take Grant off your hands and then you can pay the tax man! Seriously I hope Wednesday survive couple of my mates are Wednesday fans wouldn't like to see them go under.
skutter169
it will still take 2mill skutter for grant
mick66owl
Mirror football claims that we can have him for £750.000, but the Owls are hoping West Brom come in to up the price.
8clarets8
Or this from the Sheffield Star, Wednesday last night turn down a third offer from the Clarets for Grant. Owls manager Alan Irvine said: "It was an improved offer, but fell way short of what it would take for us to consider selling him." Whether the £550.000 owed to the taxman by the Owls could force them to sell remains to be seen.
