A Glasgow Kiss Goodbye to Eagles? Ger(s)!

A Glasgow Kiss Goodbye to Eagles? Ger(s)!

Scottish Premier League champions Rangers have made a formal approach for winger Chris Eagles, who has just 12 months remaining on his current contract at Turf Moor. Burnley FC have confirmed the approach and both clubs are now in negotiations.

Eagles has made it plain that his ambitions lie elsewhere following Burnley's relegation from the Premier League last season and a number of top flight clubs had been linked with an interest including Spurs, Everton and Bolton.

It looks like Eagles though might be tempted to move North of the Border and both Celtic and now Rangers have been reported in the media to be looking at the 24 year old former Manchester United player Only Rangers though would appear to have made an official approach

Eagles signed for Burnley on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee in July 2008.

Some media reports yesterday were suggesting a fee of £1-£1.3 million could be bid by Rangers which would appear to be quite derogatory. Clarets fans await further news but most in their hearts never expected the player to be on our books by the time the 2010-11 season kicked-off.

Well it looks like Eagles will fly the nest as expected but I hope we get more that £1.3 million and I also hope having also lost Fletcher and probably Mears that we get some HIGH PROFILE players in to replace them. Not that impressed so far by the signings. at most OK but not WOW!! We need WOW having 'gone down stronger'

Had an Email from a Rangers fan who I know asking about Eagles last week. Told him that he started the season strong then seemed to lose his "edge". Would that be fair? Having said that my concern is more fundamental. We don't seem to be signing players that match our financial situation - but what system do we have in place to - (1) Find targets and (2) match them to our needs. Are we just wandering around with an "anyone fancy a season at Burnley approach?

I think some seem to think that buying players is easy. Surely it is better to take our time and get the right players at the right price. Just because we have some money ( for once) does not mean that we should go and pay over the odds for players and offer 'silly' wages. That would be the quickest way for us to be 'skint' again. I do agree to a certain extent TMP that we need an 'impact' signing - a player that shows every1 that Burnley mean business this season. But i also think we need to be patient and put a bit of trust in the board/manager. As for Eagles, AndyH, I would say he wasnt in the team early days but when he came in around Oct/Nov time he did look good ( ie WHU ), to often though we didnt have enough of the ball for us to use his assets. As for the price, I am not sure that valule is derogatory Phil, I thought £4m was an inflated price anyway but with him being out of contract at end of the season - can we expect more? Similarly, Has his reputation enhanced with our season in the PL, probably not.

Was interesting to hear Harry Rednapp on Talksport a couple of weeks ago talk about about an unnamed player in his early twenties who played for Man Utd, changed clubs and had got relegated last year. He made an enquiry but was told to steer well clear as the player had a real ego problem, performances have dipped and thinks he is better than he is. Perhaps not Chris Eagles? Interesting no Premiership interest in Eagles and joins a club who sold their best striker last season to Middlesborough. Cash in and get someone who is more consistent. Eagles will need even more fake tan with the Scottish climate.

Surely we must be asking for at least £2m+ for eagles i know he's as one year left of his contract and that must have a bearing. This seasons signings it seems that a lot of fans are disappointing me being one of them but there are certain factors in my eyes 1- The Boards view of BL ability to gel a winning team and get promotion 2- will the Club break the wage structure which they have in place if we want better quality of players we will have to pay better wages?.

Totally agree Fedup! We are losing out all ways at the moment in my opinion. We can't even bring in a loan keeper without it dragging on. We want to keep Fletcher-he goes, we want to keep Blake -he goes and to Bolton at that, we want to bring in Sharp,he goes to Donny! I will reserve final judgement until kick-off in August but come on Dale we are rolling in dosh now, lets get it sorted and bring in some high-profile players like everybody else seems to manage

Lets cut to the chase boys.... Fletch, Robbie, Chrisy E and Mears GONE (OR NEARLY GONE) Iwelumo, Marney and Wallice in ? ERRR..... How the hell is that building a stronger team Wallice is ok but the other two couldn't get a game last year, seen em in pre season NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL ...NOTHING better that what we already have, WE DON'T HAVE TIME to take our time (CLARETDALE) we have to bounce back into Prem THIS SEASON or our chances will fade away and it will be years before we get a return to the Prem. Is this board serious about Laws cos the signings and possible player losses are nothing short of awful at the moment either back laws or sack him. Also who the hell is negotiating for us at the moment? Example Driver we offered £4.5 over 2 years but they wanted £3.5 off the bat straight away eeerrrr...... why didnt we just pay them and land the kid WHERE IS OUR MONEY WERE ARE OUR SIGNINGS !!!! QUESTIONS HAVE GOT TO BE ASKED We are purported to have some guy on our coaching staff that has the largest scouting operation in the UK ..... so come on earn ya money man ..... laws is after a keeper (on loan at that) and possibly 1 other? eh we need some quality... NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL BOYS what the hells going on down there

The fee is thought to be £1.5 million with add-ons rising to £2.5m.

Eagles has one year to go on his contract and nobody else is in for him. I'd offer him an extended contract now, maybe with a pay rise on promotion. If he doesn't go for it, then take any sensible offer, particularly if he thinks he's too good for us. I don't want to lose him, but it won't break my heart if he goes. Sure he can entertain with his runs with the ball - but what's at the end of those runs? Half the time when he could put in a good cross, he tries to take the ball into the middle himself and loses it; or he puts in a weak shot (and nobody can deny that his shots are weak).

Nos i think if BL and the board wanted to keep Eagles they would have been talking to CE about a contract extension before now and the fact BL as stated he wants to keep CE but the board have already accepted the offer from Rangers seems to me he's on his way.
