A Glasgow Kiss Goodbye to Eagles? Ger(s)!

Scottish Premier League champions Rangers have made a formal approach for winger Chris Eagles, who has just 12 months remaining on his current contract at Turf Moor. Burnley FC have confirmed the approach and both clubs are now in negotiations.

Eagles has made it plain that his ambitions lie elsewhere following Burnley's relegation from the Premier League last season and a number of top flight clubs had been linked with an interest including Spurs, Everton and Bolton.

It looks like Eagles though might be tempted to move North of the Border and both Celtic and now Rangers have been reported in the media to be looking at the 24 year old former Manchester United player Only Rangers though would appear to have made an official approach

Eagles signed for Burnley on a three-year contract for an undisclosed fee in July 2008.

Some media reports yesterday were suggesting a fee of 1-1.3 million could be bid by Rangers which would appear to be quite derogatory. Clarets fans await further news but most in their hearts never expected the player to be on our books by the time the 2010-11 season kicked-off.

Well it looks like Eagles will fly the nest as expected but I hope we get more that 1.3 million and I also hope having also lost Fletcher and probably Mears that we get some HIGH PROFILE players in to replace them. Not that impressed so far by the signings. at most OK but not WOW!! We need WOW having 'gone down stronger'

Had an Email from a Rangers fan who I know asking about Eagles last week. Told him that he started the season strong then seemed to lose his "edge". Would that be fair? Having said that my concern is more fundamental. We don't seem to be signing players that match our financial situation - but what system do we have in place to - (1) Find targets and (2) match them to our needs. Are we just wandering around with an "anyone fancy a season at Burnley approach?

I think some seem to think that buying players is easy. Surely it is better to take our time and get the right players at the right price. Just because we have some money ( for once) does not mean that we should go and pay over the odds for players and offer 'silly' wages. That would be the quickest way for us to be 'skint' again. I do agree to a certain extent TMP that we need an 'impact' signing - a player that shows every1 that Burnley mean business this season. But i also think we need to be patient and put a bit of trust in the board/manager. As for Eagles, AndyH, I would say he wasnt in the team early days but when he came in around Oct/Nov time he did look good ( ie WHU ), to often though we didnt have enough of the ball for us to use his assets. As for the price, I am not sure that valule is derogatory Phil, I thought 4m was an inflated price anyway but with him being out of contract at end of the season - can we expect more? Similarly, Has his reputation enhanced with our season in the PL, probably not.

Was interesting to hear Harry Rednapp on Talksport a couple of weeks ago talk about about an unnamed player in his early twenties who played for Man Utd, changed clubs and had got relegated last year. He made an enquiry but was told to steer well clear as the player had a real ego problem, performances have dipped and thinks he is better than he is. Perhaps not Chris Eagles? Interesting no Premiership interest in Eagles and joins a club who sold their best striker last season to Middlesborough. Cash in and get someone who is more consistent. Eagles will need even more fake tan with the Scottish climate.

Surely we must be asking for at least 2m+ for eagles i know he's as one year left of his contract and that must have a bearing. This seasons signings it seems that a lot of fans are disappointing me being one of them but there are certain factors in my eyes 1- The Boards view of BL ability to gel a winning team and get promotion 2- will the Club break the wage structure which they have in place if we want better quality of players we will have to pay better wages?.

Totally agree Fedup! We are losing out all ways at the moment in my opinion. We can't even bring in a loan keeper without it dragging on. We want to keep Fletcher-he goes, we want to keep Blake -he goes and to Bolton at that, we want to bring in Sharp,he goes to Donny! I will reserve final judgement until kick-off in August but come on Dale we are rolling in dosh now, lets get it sorted and bring in some high-profile players like everybody else seems to manage

Lets cut to the chase boys.... Fletch, Robbie, Chrisy E and Mears GONE (OR NEARLY GONE) Iwelumo, Marney and Wallice in ? ERRR..... How the hell is that building a stronger team Wallice is ok but the other two couldn't get a game last year, seen em in pre season NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL ...NOTHING better that what we already have, WE DON'T HAVE TIME to take our time (CLARETDALE) we have to bounce back into Prem THIS SEASON or our chances will fade away and it will be years before we get a return to the Prem. Is this board serious about Laws cos the signings and possible player losses are nothing short of awful at the moment either back laws or sack him. Also who the hell is negotiating for us at the moment? Example Driver we offered 4.5 over 2 years but they wanted 3.5 off the bat straight away eeerrrr...... why didnt we just pay them and land the kid WHERE IS OUR MONEY WERE ARE OUR SIGNINGS !!!! QUESTIONS HAVE GOT TO BE ASKED We are purported to have some guy on our coaching staff that has the largest scouting operation in the UK ..... so come on earn ya money man ..... laws is after a keeper (on loan at that) and possibly 1 other? eh we need some quality... NOT IMPRESSED AT ALL BOYS what the hells going on down there

The fee is thought to be 1.5 million with add-ons rising to 2.5m.

Eagles has one year to go on his contract and nobody else is in for him. I'd offer him an extended contract now, maybe with a pay rise on promotion. If he doesn't go for it, then take any sensible offer, particularly if he thinks he's too good for us. I don't want to lose him, but it won't break my heart if he goes. Sure he can entertain with his runs with the ball - but what's at the end of those runs? Half the time when he could put in a good cross, he tries to take the ball into the middle himself and loses it; or he puts in a weak shot (and nobody can deny that his shots are weak).

Nos i think if BL and the board wanted to keep Eagles they would have been talking to CE about a contract extension before now and the fact BL as stated he wants to keep CE but the board have already accepted the offer from Rangers seems to me he's on his way.

As I have said before, I'd take a decent offer for Chris, for reasons restated by CD and NP. As for the offer we made for Driver, the lad is in the process of getting knee surgery. If we didn't offer Hearts the full price, but instead insisted on paying some now, some later, I would say - for a player in the midst of knee surgery - that was very wise. Meanwhile there is still no actual hard evidence of anyone putting in a bid for Mears. And, when you look around the leagues, there's not a whole lot of deals being done anywhere. It's a buyers' market for the most part, which means that sellers are receiving lowish bids and hanging on, hoping for more cash; but they'll quite probably take what they can get late in the window. As for the ongoing (yawn, excuse me) debate about 'going down stronger'... the club is unquestionably a stronger organisation than when we got promoted. The squad is also stronger than when we got promoted. Of course it could be better but, depending on what you're comparing it to, the 'stronger' comment is justified. Finally, Laws, now he has had time to look around, (whihc he didn't in January) seems to me to be taking a much more rational approach to squad development than his over-emotional predecessor. Yes, Coy-Boy made some headline signings, but he also made some weird ones, and overall he failed to demonstrate a sense of balance in his dealings. Hold your nerves, Claret fans! It'll always be a bumpy ride, but you might as well enjoy it as worry yourselves into a pulp!

Hollins - We do have time to take our time. I am not suggesting we take 3 years over it, but the season doesnt start for another 3 weeks and the window is open for a further 3 weeks after that. If we need to use that time - use it. Dont panic, end up buying the wrong player who you dont need/want and then cant sell and end up back where we started. BL might be generally happy with his squad - Just because we have Xm in the bank doesnt mean we have to spend it all NOW!. As for the the board not backing BL, surely the fact we made substantial bids for both Driver and Maynard proves that BL is being back. Dont get me wrong, I would like us to add a few more faces including an impact/high profile signing ( and i think that is what we are trying to do) - but what some seem to be suggesting is that we should just forget all business sense - that would not be good for short or long term Burnley.

Best news for ages,as some of my earlier postings have suggested.Never seen him have a good game yet, only flashes few and far between.Has got delusions of grandeur,is greedy and does not appear to be a team player.9 goals in 77 games with all the attempts he had on goal is pathetic. As for players coming in remember"FOOLS RUSH IN WHERE ANGELS FEAR TO TREAD"but then again "HE WHO HESITATES IS LOST"Its all so confusing.

OK we sell him. Had doubts when he turned up in a Lambo. BUT does this give us a potent enough group up front. I sort of agree with the only good in flashes idea last year but - managed well with a bit of a shock to his ego can he do some real damage.

I saw a similar one AH with Brian Easton tipping Eagles to light up the SPL, look we all knew Eagles would jump ship at the first chance, let's get as much as we can and move on, I always thought Eagles was 2 under par.....

I also think Chris will do well with Rangers in the SPL. He has the potential to illuminate a team that dominates, but has not yet shown the ability to grab tougher games by the scruff of the neck.

I'm in a bit of shock over this, I though he was sure to go! I don't blame the club for wanting to cash in, think you have to really. However Eagles turning it down, whats happened there? If he's staying I'll be happy as I he has started pre-season well and maybe if no one else bids for him he'll realise he has to kuckle down. Eyresy's Left Peg Redknapp comments are interesting, it's definatley Chris he is speaking about. Have to wait and see!

He's turned them down ?? On BBC teletext earlier on it stated that 'Burnley have accepted a bid from Rangers'. Maybe the lad has changed his mind at the last minute and decided to stay and be a part of the successful campaign this season :-) If he is staying, he could play a big part in the championship for us, and maybe learn a few things about consistency ready for the following season.

Looks like good news. If he stays (and with the right attitude) this could make a big difference. Just hope we can take this at face value.
