The Clarets fresh from their 3-0 victory at Gigg Lane against League 2 Bury on Saturday are on the road again tonight (Monday 12th July) and play the second of their pre-season friendlies.
This time they make yet another short journey travelling to Boundary Park to play Oldham Athletic. Clarets fans going to the game are reminded that the kick-off is now 7:30pm.
Oldham struggled last season finishing in 16th spot in League 1 just two points away from the relegation zone. The Latics parted company with their manger Dave Penney in May 2010 after a year in charge and caretaker boss Martin Gray also left the club in the summer.
The club are now managed by former Manchester City and Scotland striker Paul Dickov who became their player-manager on a 12-month rolling deal in June. This is Dichov's first managerial post and he will be keen for a result against the Clarets.
What sort of team will Brian Laws put out? He may well decide to repeat what he did at Bury and effectively give his whole sqaud a run out over the two halves. Laws made nine changes for the start of the second half at Gigg Lane with only Tyrone Mears missing out after picking up a slight hamstring injury.
It will be interesting to see if Mears is back in contention tonight if fit. There are persistent rumours he wants away from Turf Moor to further his Premier League ambitions. Richard Eckersley though was an able deputy at right back on Saturday getting a 68 minute run out and Laws might choose to give him another opportunity.
Clarets fans got the chance at Bury to see our three new summer signings for the first time but it unlikely we will see a fourth in tonight's match unless Laws can sign someone in time. A fourth signing widely expected to be keeper, Fraser Forster on a season-long loan from Newcastle is expected to be on board before the team embark on their Singapore tour this Saturday.
