Could you stomach Nugent in a Rovers shirt?

Clarets former loan striker, David Nugent looked to have given up on his Premier League ambitions, at least in the short-term after seemingly deciding to stay at Fratton Park and resurrect his career at Portsmouth.

Our former gaffer, Steve Cotterill now manager at Portsmouth looked to have convinced Nugent that his future would be best served in a Pompey shirt.

Cynical Clarets fans may well have suspected that Nugent accepted the easy option after realising that nobody in the Premier League appeared to want to take a punt on the 25 year old striker.

News broke yesterday though that suggests that maybe one Premier League club could now be about to upset the Hampshire happy apple-cart.

How would Clarets react to the thought of Nugent playing for Blackburn Rovers?

According to the Sunday Mirror yesterday, Rovers boss Sam Allardyce could be about to offer Nugent a Premier League lifeline and if there is any truth in the rumour it could be just the sort of move Nugent would relish.

Not only would this put Nugent's Premier League ambitions firmly on track again but it would also involve the Huyton-born striker remaining in the North West of England something he has relished in the past.

Clarets fans might find that hard to stomach but I guess we have to move on and wish Nugent well in whatever he does next despite the apparant snub he has given the Clarets and the fact he might soon be wearing the dreaded blue&white of Blackburn.

Hampshire is lovely in Summer, Nugent! Don't you dare!! ;-)

Maybe it's a good sign. The 2 clubs he was linked to last year went down. Lets hope the trend continues if he makes the move.

You have a point there! lol Would be ironic if Rovers went down with Nugent and we got promoted!! That would be justice
turfmanphil
Not just justice. More like stunning?

If he goes to play for Rovers, I would not be that bothered. He was a loan signing who I enjoyed supporting for a season. If a true claret was to play for Rovers - that is what would be hard to stomach.

Dare I speculate that Nuge's declaration of loyalty to Portsmouth was actually a crafty way, thought up by his agent, of getting his name back in front of PL managers? I would guess that most managers are reckoning that the longer they wait the more they will be able to lowball an increasingly desperate to raise cash Pompey. Unless, of course, a white knight rides in and make sales unnecessary... or HMRC's £20million investment has left them rather richer than they are letting on. Nothing would surprise me in the crazy world of football finance. Pompey fans must be spending half their time thinking this is the worst summer window ever... and half rejoicing that they are still alive.

Wouldn't bother me in the slightest for exactly the reasons stated by Dale. Good point Couch too - be very surprised if Nugent's heart is really in playing for Pompey.

It wouldn't be easy for Nugent, a lot of people down here don't want him back, I suspect both player and club have talked up his attitude on account of him being renowned for sloppy attitude, poor discipline and lazyness. Players with negative image don't command the same price as those who graft a bit and turn up.

No it would not bother me either in fact I would relish seeing him miss sitters with his huge grin for them.

There's just 1 problem atm with this Bar Stewards don't have any cash. I read on LET website that they were looking for backers as the Walker trust "have taken us as far as they can" one of them said.

Dale has this one spot on for me.
