Rumour Mill-Preston seek Caldwell?

Rumour Mill-Preston seek Caldwell?

Preston are in talks to sign our former captain Steven Caldwell according to Sky Sports sources.

Caldwell is looking for a new club after faling to secure a new contract with Burnley at the end of last season.

Portsmouth had been linked with a move for Caldwell but former Clarets gaffer, Steve Cotterill the new manager at Pompey denied any interest in signing the player he brought to Turf Moor.

Preston boss Darren Ferguson though is understood to be hoping to persuade him to make the move to Deepdale.

Meanwhile another former Clarets player, John Spicer who was both signed for the Clarets by Cotterill and released by him is moving again this time to Cotterill's former club, Notts County.

Spicer joined the Clarets from Bournemouth in August 2005 before being released in the summer of 2008.

He then signed a two year deal with Doncaster in June 2008 but joined Leyton Orient on loan in March this year. He was then released by Rovers in the summer and it had been expected he would join Orient on a permanent deal. Newly promoted League 1 club Notts County though have scuppered that idea so Spicer will once more team up with Dave Kevan, who was Cotterill's side kick at Turf Moor and is now number 2 at Notts County.

Would probably be a good move for both players. Its a shame about Spice - he looked to have a fair amount of potential. I still wonder what would have happened if he hadnt got sent off at Portman Road in December 08 - he may have kept his place in the side and been an important part of our promotion squad?
