Taking the Buxton Waters!

Burnley have added a further game to their pre-season programme with a trip to UniBond Premier League side Buxton.

Burnley will visit the Derbyshire club on Thursday, 15th July (kick-off 7.30pm).

A mixed first and reserve-team side is expected to line up for the Clarets for the game at Silverlands.

Two days later and Brian Laws and his squad will be swopping the Peak District for Singapore with their tour commencing on Saturday 17th July.

Buxton finished eighth in the UniBond Premier League last season.

Fomrer Clarets youngster Cayne Hanley was also in their squad for a spell last season.

Seems an odd one to arrange, probably done for the younger lads on the fringe of the first team

It makes me wonder whether there is some aspect to this that we haven't thought of yet. Thus far, all I can think of is that the two teams begin with the same two letters and that both teams nestle in the Pennines.

Ah. . But I am a Buxton Claret! As a lad, in the early 60s our A side sent a team here to play Buxton too! I shall be putting at least 12 on the gate that night! Lol

I used to live in a little village in the Peak District, 10 miles south of Buxton, when I was a teenager, from about '68. Had a few beers there once or twice...

I remember the days of Bangor City v Buxton in the Northern Premier League . We used to play Wigan Athletic in the same league, but they've come a long way since those days.
