And First Up Is...Forest at Home

The Fixtures are out for the new 2010/11 season and we have a new Football League sponsor so no longer will we be able to make reference to the 'fizzy pop` league with Coca Cola now bowing out. The 2010/11 season will see the start of a new three year title sponsorship of The Football League by npower.

The Clarets will also be hoping this brings npower to their elbow as they plot an immediate return to the Premier League following relegation last season back down to the Championship.

They will get their first chance to impress in the opening match of the new season against Nottingham Forest to be played at Turf Moor on the Saturday 7th August 2010 (Kick-Off 3pm)

In a tricky August we will also play Ipswich away, Leicester at home and Swansea away

At least however we will not need to concern ourselves with the first round of the Carling Cup which is played in the first midweek after the start of the league season. We have been given a bye for the first leg along with Hull City and will now enter the second round as a seeded club.

Clarets fans will also be keen to know when we play our local rivals, Preston North End and newly promoted Leeds United. Well Preston are the visitors to Turf Moor in our first game of September on Saturday 11th and we will travel to Deepdale on Saturday 26th February. Our first clash in anger for sometime against Leeds United will be at Turf Moor on Saturday 11th December but we won`t play them again until we visit Elland Road in the penultimate game of the season on Saturday 30th April.

Our Boxing Day treat will be a game against Barnsley at Oakwell! Oh joy, we never win there so it looks like a traditional Clarets Christmas again! By the time we have played our last game of the season against Cardiff at home on Sunday 8th May 2011, all Clarets fans will be hoping we will have secured one of the automatic promotion spots or at the very least be in a play-offs position.

The full fixture list is now up on a special Vital Burnley page. This is possible thanks to the Club designating the site the Official Fanzine allowing us to publish the fixtures in full without infringing copyright so here they are:

Oh well pity it's not Man U at home first and Rovers in September! :-( Anyway let's make sure it will be in 2011-12!!

3 of the first 4 were in last season's playoffs. Was it also 4 Dec that we went to Pompey last year? It must have been very close to that date. Scunthorpe at home rounds out the Christmas festivities, which tmp has pointed out start at Barnsley. I see he's in a generous mood already by expressing the wish that we play R*vers in the PL in 11/12. Don't we want to wave at them as they go down as we go up?

I thought with the sunshine everyone would be positive for the opener against forest in August, i would had prefered to be away for the first game of the season.

Very tough start to the season - especially away from home. We shall see what happens.

A good test for the side right from the off. We'll have a good idea how good we are by October.

First thing that struck me is that there a lot more games though, in fact, it is only eight extra fixtures. Some tough looking contests but hopefully there a quite a few opportunities to pick up a win or two. Can't wait for my first fixture of the season at Ipswich. Catch up with some old friends, bit of Suffolk sunshine and three points to boot.

We should be really after one dizzy height season in the top flight and the fact the punters have us favourites for a return next season. Boing, boing?
