Pompey Reports Wide of the Mark

The Clarets manager has surprisingly been linked with a move to the south coast club to be Harry Redknapp's assistant.

With current assistant Kevin Bond apparently on the Newcastle United wish list, Cotterill's name has been linked with Pompey, but those claims would appear to be wide of the mark.

A Portsmouth source told the Lancashire Evening Telegraph: 'Harry and Steve have been friends for a long time, and they did meet up recently, but it seems highly unlikely that Cotterill will be coming to Fratton Park.

'He is a well respected manager in his own right, and I can't see him being attracted by an assistant's job.'

Cotterill recently signed a long-term extension to his contract as Burnley manager, and a move does appear somewhat unlikely.

knew there was nothing in this when i read it. Just a story from association. His friends with Harry, Mourinho is friends with Ferguson, it doesnt mean hes going to jump ship to be his assistant.

H.R. bought cotterill up in the team at Bournemouth when he was manager there and also had a lot to do with his move through the caoching channels. They are indeed, very good friends, and it wouldn't surprise me if S.C. came to us as 2nd in command to eventually take over. There is a sticking point in this, and it is the fact that H.R. wants to impose full on nepotism on our club next. We had quasi nepotism with his lap dog bond, but now he's gone, he wants his son in now.

Why would anybody who has complete control of his team and squad want to consider a position as deputy? Furthermore, I think SC must realise he still has to prove himself with the full title of manager at this level. He has to do this with the Clarets in my opinion! Any glory at Pompey should SC be tempted would go to Redknapp not Steve!
