Fletcher Says We Got About £7.5m for Fletcher!

The fee we got from the sale of striker, Steven Fletcher was described as undisclosed at the time with various media reports suggesting it was anywhere between £5-8 million with £6.5 million being the figure quoted most often.

Today however another Fletcher, chief excutive Paul appears to have revealed that the amount of dosh received was about £7.5 million.

He is quoted by the Lancashire Telegraph as saying:

"We got around £7.5m for Fletcher, so that`s a £4m profit.

"The manager has been given a budget and will go out and spend it as he sees fit.

"We might end up with a squad of players that`s better than last year.

"We`ve already brought in Iwelumo so I think if we can look to bring in a mixture of young and old players, spending £1m or £1.5m on young players, that is probably what we`ll look to do - although it will be down to the manager and the chairman."

Paul Fletcher though in the same article also admits that a number of other players could leave Turf Moor if their agents get their way.

"We only want players who want to be with us," said Fletcher

"It`s hard to keep players now who don`t want to be at a club, but if people want to be here they are more than welcome'

The statement surrounds speculation that Tyrone Mears, Chris Eagles, Wade Elliott and Clarke Carlisle may be looking to move although none appear to have openly said they want to leave.

Fletcher talking about the agents role these days continued:

'Agents are putting their names around all the time. It`s a constant thing and it happens to all clubs.

"I think players move too quickly now and you don`t get that affinity and that bond with fans.

"Two years seems like a lifetime now. If players stay two years they could probably be in line for a loyalty bonus'

Wonder why Steven's transfer fee is suddenly not undisclosed? Is he also preparing us for some of the players leaving?
turfmanphil
Does Fletch know the answer to your question, TMP, any more than any of the rest of us? I know only that I don't know! Another thing I don't know is what's going to happen in England v USA tomorrow. But I have made my prediction in the forums section of this site. With cash prizes to be won, I imagine more will be making their predictions soon!
Couch Potato
If they leave, as long as it is good money, that's fine. I would worry about the 1 and 1.5mn bandied about in the article but I suspect he is trying to lower selling clubs expectations of our transfer pot.

We might end up with a squad of players that`s better than last year? you would hope so is that not the idea? something should be done about all this undisclosed fees imo not just Burnley but all teams should be made to reveal who payed what to whoever!

I was sincerely hoping Fulham would go after Fletcher, but I can't imagine we'd be willing to match that valuation. I know all the Burnley fans probably wanted to hang onto him, but £7.5m is a great bit of business. A £4.5m profit for a player you've had for one season is hard to turn down.
Teddy_KGB
I'd hope that Fletcher would know what we got seeing as he is CEO of the club! £7.5 mill is a great price for Fletch. Now need to spend those pounds.
skutter169
Agree skutter. He wanted to go, he went, and now we need to use the dosh to buy quality players who will want to play for Burnley Fc.

Skutter - as an alternative to Bfc spending the money on players, I would be very happy to open an anonymous bank account in Switzerland, nearby where I like to go walking in the autumn, when I can, and let Fletch have the number so he can deposit it there! (Hebden Bridge is looking like an alternative this year.)

""The manager has been given a budget and will go out and spend it as he sees fit" I just hope the budget laws has been given doesn't reflect the reaso why he's looking at player of £1m to £1.5m
Totally_Claret
We do need to spend that 7million and more besides then we will be in buisness.

£7.5m is a very good amount for his 1 year playing in Claret and blue, I would have liked to have kept Fletcher to see what he could do against Championship teams, but i wish him well at Wolves
