Jefferies Denies Clarets Bid for Driver
Hearts boss Jim Jefferies has stated that he is unaware of any bid for Andrew Driver by Burnley FC.
The Clarets were reported to have made an offer of £1.5milion for the England Under 21 international winger.
However it is understood that Hearts want over double that amount for the 22 year old. Vladimir Romanov is reported to have put a £4m price tag on their key player.
Jefferies told the Daily Record:
'Nobody has told me anything about a bid from Burnley for Andy or offers from any other clubs for that matter,'
'It may well be the case that an offer has been made, but it is news to me.
'I'm not saying that there has not been interest in the player because everybody can see that the lad is a great talent.
'Any offers for players will have to be discussed by the relevant football people including the manager.'
If we do want to sign him it looks like we could be facing competition from a number of other clubs, including some in the Premier League.
Even Chelsea yesterday were linked with Driver. The club were reported to have been in talks regarding an initial loan agreement for Driver, which would include the option of a subsequent £5m move.
Driver's contract at Hearts runs out in 2013 and he may be reluctant to move to England's double winners where competition for first-team football will be intense.
Chelsea's interest though if true says much about his reputation south of the Border.
The Sun though today states that the Chelsea link is wide of the mark although the paper believes Hearts would consider accepting a loan fee with a fixed option for a permanent deal, which could prove attractive to interested clubs
It is also understood that West Ham, Wigan Athletic, Middlesbrough and Holland's FC Twente have been in contact with Hearts as well about a possible move despite denials by Jefferies
