Rumour Mill-Back in the Driver Seat? Maybe Not!

Rumour Mill-Back in the Driver Seat? Maybe Not!

Oldham-born Andy Driver is back on Burnley's radar. The 22 year old Hearts winger is reported to be one of Brian Laws targets with both STV and BBC Sport suggesting we have put in a £1.5 million bid for the winger.

However sources at Hearts have told STV that our offer falls way short of their valuation of the player with the suggestion we would need to almost double our bid!

Owen Coyle was always keen to sign Driver. He was the subject of two bids from the Clarets totalling £500,000 in the summer of 2008. This was rejected by Hearts along with one from Coventry City.

Driver moved to Scotland from Oldham at the age of 11 after his father found a job opportunity North of the Border.

The winger started his professional career with Hearts and after progressing through the youth ranks at Tynecastle signed a five year contract in 2008 until 2013.

He represented England at Under-21 level last summer but has since expressed a desire to play for Scotland. Driver currently awaits the decision of a FIFA ruling on whether he qualifies to play for Scotland or not.

If you want him, you'll have to pay a lot more I think. Simple as that.

Have Bolton got the same spending power as us tmp? :-) Could be a good signing this one, but there again so would Maynard and Sharp. Before I get too excited, I'll wait to see who get's into the bag, and whether or not the hole that Fletcher fell out of has been sewn.

Good player but a big risk after injury - 2m is fair and would be good for all parties. I can imagine knowing Hearts though they will be unrealistic - look at what happened to SWFC though after Tudgay got his move refused last season and playing poor ever since

I learnt my lesson yesterday...so here goes. If we are going down stronger then we should be able to sign him and if we don't the Board have no ambition and Laws is not trying.......I will be back with this post on the next rumour.....I am reading and learning tmp and trying it from you view point for a while! lol

No idea how good Driver is - but sounds like the type of player we could do with.

This lad would be a good signing imo. We are obviously short of a left footed winger and Driver is that.

Is it just me or has Horse Face not splashed the cash at Horwich since leaving on his donkey? Cahill can move to Spurs for me. TMP started my thoughts by saying above Horse Face may force Driver into a 3 point turn........without any indicators.....wonder if he has a good engine........ok I am tyred of this now.....nurse

I seem to remember that Driver looked good in last summer's U-21 finals, at which point he was English, but now he seesm to be Scottish, so I am at least as confused as VR!

I hope we pursue with trying to get Driver he would make a good addition to our squad.
