Pato New Deal Softens Fletcher Loss

Steven Fletcher passed a medical at Molineux yesterday and subsequently signed for Wolves for an undisclosed fee penning a four-year deal.

The money we received for Fletcher was a club transfer record but depending on which media story you read the amount agreed was anywhere between 5.5 million and 8 million!

It was certainly much higher than our previous record deal when we received 3,25 million for Kyle Lafferty in the summer of 2008.

Clarets fans will be disappointed at losing Fletcher but at least there was some good news regarding Martin Paterson.

Pato has shown further commitment to the club by signing a one-year contract extension up to 2013. He originally signed a four-year deal when he arrived from Scunthorpe United in the summer of 2008.

Great news! Ma ma ma ma ma ma ma ma ma Martin Pateron, Paterson, Martin Paterson! "He's like a Jack Russell chasing a crisp packet on a windy day" (Actually, Phil, can I enter that as one of those quote things - think Brian Laws said it.)

Possibly Ruane, but his application along with the quality of his delivery provided some excellent moments in the closing months ( as it did at Reading & Wembley). Fedup - Where would you play Pato?

Yes! Great news. Patto's one of my favourites. Although playing out on the right isn't his natural or preferred position, he was very effective there towards the end of last season. Maybe have him putting crosses in to Big Chris or Thommo?

Dale I'd play him either Thompson Iwelumo feeding of the 1 of the 2 big fella's he could get alot of goals in that position but then we would need someone on the wing who could swing some quality balls into the box. He did well last season on the wing but i think his best position is in the box for me.

One thing Pato did really well in late season out on the wing was get back and TACKLE. Unless we bring in other tacklers who can also tackle - and create - to play in the place Wade has stuck in the middle, and thus release Wade to play out wide, I suggest we leave Pato out there.

It will be interesting because with our anticipated strengthening - I cannot see Wade being a central starter in either a 2 or a 3. That will be Chris Mccann plus 1 or 2 others. If Wade is then moved wide, we will then be left with Pato/Thommo/Iwelumo/Sharp ( maybe) fighting for 1 or 2 forward slots.

It will be interesting to see what will happen when we unleash this new look attack. While were not up against some of the drilled and disciplined (as well as seasoned) back lines of the premiership we still need to get the ball to the right places and in a useable fashion. Jensen could just about get the ball into the other penalty box but not in a way that was all that useful. We'll see I suppose. Having said that I sort of like the way the situation is developing (get the new signings in quickly and start work now) under Laws?
