Rumour Mill-Fletcher? Can't Keep Wolves at Bay

Brian Laws is on record saying he is trying everything he can to keep highly rated Steven Fletcher at Turf Moor despite a number of Premier League clubs being linked to the 23 year old Scottish international striker. Wolves in particular, but also Birmingham, Bolton and Blackburn have all been reported to be interested.

Laws recently said after signing striker, Chris Iwelumo from Wolves:

"People may read into the fact that Chris Iwelumo is a possible replacement for Fletcher, which is not the case," said the Clarets manager.

"We don't want Steven to go. But, if he decides to leave, we will replace him.

"We need power and strength because the Championship is a very physical league, hence Chris's arrival.

"But I'm still looking for a goalscorer to complement my squad."

The Club's determination to try and keep Fletcher would appear to have been confirmed today with a report in the Daily Mail suggesting Wolves had been forced to increase their offer from £7.5 million to £8 million.

There was also an indication that Wolves gaffer, Mick McCarthy may be reluctant to release keeper, Wayne Hennessey on a season-long loan as part of the deal, but may have to do so in order to secure Fletcher's services.

However BBC Sport report that Fletcher is in negotiations with Wolves about a possible transfer from Burnley stating that a fee has been agreed between the two clubs after Burnley gave permission for him to speak to McCarthy.

These talks are expected to continue on Thursday between Wolves and the player, Burnley told BBC Scotland.

If Fletcher leaves I will officially rate Laws alongside Sir Alex Ferguson and Arsene Wenger, just like tmp will. Just another manager who can't keep his best players, Steven Fletcher, Cristiano Ronaldo and Cesc Fabregas. No ambition from the managers or boardroom and I may consider supporting Sleaford Town who have sold nobody!......lol.....p.s. 8Million snap his hand off Brian and Barry plus make sure Fletch is wrapped in cotton wool until we get the cash.

The club talk bull-***** the player will go! Seriously sick to death of everybody glorifying in the loss of a key player for extra money. Someone nudge me with a big stick when we actually have any proof we have gone down stronger. Laws wants to keep him my arse

TMP - I see what you are saying but please please please just look at it from the other angle for a second. To me, Fletch is worth about £5m, If we get £8 - brilliant. Instead of Fletcher, but 3 x £2.5m players into our team. For arguments sake - A goalie, A centre half and a central midfielder. Which would make the Burnley team stronger? Those three additions ( obviously depending on who they were), or Steven Fletcher?

You are imo 100% wrong tmp, Laws does want to keep Fletcher and I refer to my first post on this thread, Wenger wants to keep Fabregas and Ferguson did not want to lose the best player he had. However if losing Fletcher gives the club the money to strengthen all those areas that conceded 80+ goals last year and of course Fletchers great contribution of 8 goals for, then I am prepared to accept 8Million wongas for him.

'The Club Do Not have to Sell'-from the horses mouth! If Laws wants to keep Fletcher then bloody well tell Wolves to feck off! Money to strengthen?FFS how much do we need, we have just spent a season in the top flight which was supposed to produce megabucks allowing us to go down stronger, we are supposed to be getting £16 million parachute as well. The only reason we should sell Fletcher if is if he wants to go and if he does it makes a mockery of his earlier statement that he would be willing to stay and help the Clarets get back to the top flight

tmp, hohw much would you accept for him? £15m? £25m? £40m? £100m? Or would you reject the whole lot because we said we don't need to sell?

Guys i can see both sides of the argument, Tmp the Club don't need to sell and VinR how can you turn down £7.5m. My view is that what ever Fletcher has said reguarding staying somewhere along the line his head has been turned to the bright lights of the Prem. I think we all agree that we would like Fletcher to stay even the Club but one man does not make a team and if he or his agent want to move so be it. What ever statement is made by the Club or players at the end of the season i would take with a pinch of salt, so let the player and the club get on with making the right decision for both parties.

It looks like the club has stopped at £7.5 million. LT say he is having medical at Molineux. Nobody is going to go as high as £15m CC.It would be a much better world if club, manager and player didn't spout bollox ie lie!! WE WILL SELL TO THE HIGHEST BIDDER is nearer to the truth
