Rumour Mill-Sharp Practice for Official Signing?

Rumour Mill-Sharp Practice for Official Signing?

Sheffield United striker Billy Sharp is set to complete a move to Turf Moor according to The Star although the paper also states that the Blades board of directors have denied that an offer has been made by Brian Laws.

Sky Sports have gone one better though and announced that a bid has been accepted.

Sharp, 24 spent last season on loan at Doncaster Rovers and managed an impressive 15 goals in 35 appearances.

The former Scunthorpe United striker was also linked recently with a move to newly-promoted Championship side Leeds.

We await an official announcement with bated breath but if Sharp is on his way and with striker, Chris Iwelumo already signing for the Clarets this week, it would appear that there is only fate in store for Steven Fletcher; a probable move to Wolves!

Quite the like the idea of a new strike force based on Sharp and Iwelumo although Fletcher is probably as good as both of them put together. Sharp seems to suffer from inconsistency, does well for some clubs and not others so hopefully we will get the most from him if he comes

"...although Fletcher is probably as good as both of them put together." Hilarious. For a player who, whilst undoubtedly good, has only one foot to speak of (and how), can't really head too well, and whose touch seemed a bit heavy at times, I think some are making too much of his - seemingly - impending departure. I'm not saying he's a bad player or that I want him to leave, but £7 million or so represents a great deal for BFC.

..and a great loss for a club that doesn't have to sell! Also one with Prem experience.Mick McCarthy is no mug! We are the losers and its about time we had the balls to call the shots or at least stop making inane comments that we will do everything we can to keep players

I think TMP the inconsistency of Sharp can be related to where he is playing. Whilst playing for Scunny & Donny the ball is on the deck a lot more and chances are created for the sort of player Sharp is. Under Blackwell, the ball is lumped forward and this is not the sort of football from which Sharp is likely to be benefit. Thankfully we play the Scunny/Donny style. As an additional point - Did Laws sign Sharp for Scunny?

I think Laws did sign him. Sharp's 'inconsistency' has only been a problem at Sheffield United. His record everywhere else is fantastic. I agree with wtbm about the unnecessary furore regarding the iminent departure of Fletcher. Unless I'm wrong Fletcher isn't deemed good enough to get a place in the Scotland starting squad so how good does that say he is?

Putting aside the fact that McCarthy, McLeish, Allardyce and Coyle have all been interested in him, you also have to remember what he is likely to do for us at Championship level! He will be in a class of his own I suspect and could easily get 20-30 goals at that level. Big mistake if we let him go in my opinion

If the player wants to go or the club want to sell and taking your point Tmp (the Club don't need to sell) like i said in a early post you ain't going to please everyone. I would like to see him stay and I think he would score at least 25 goals this season but i also know how fickle football is, on the other side at least we are looking to buy decent replacements with good track records.

Laws wants to keep Fletcher , he say's Iwelumo is'nt a replacement for Fletcher and he wants to bring in a goal scorer to compliment his squad !

A further striker would make 5 plus Jay Rod - Surely thats to many? Unless he sees Pato in the right midfield slot now?

Hope you're right BL. Nothing is certain in football these days, but it'll be a big mistake to sell Fletch. We've all seen the missed chances, but we've all seen the potential as well. There's only one way he's going to go, and that's better and better. We don't need the money even though we're all ensconsed in the time honoured mentality of having to sell to survive. The fact is things have changed, and we don't at this moment in time. Keep him at all cost, just like Arsenal told RM to **** off . Remember the good old days when a contract was a contract?
