Chris Iwelumo Signs In

Wolves striker, Chris Iwelumo has today signed for the Clarets for an undisclosed fee.

The 31 year old Scottish international has penned a two year deal.

Brian Laws had this to say about our new signing:

"I'm delighted to bring Chris Iwelumo to Burnley, I think he is going to be a fantastic addition.

"Chris is not a gamble, he is proven in the Championship and has been promoted four times. He has also averaged about 15 goals a season which tells you he can play.

"His link-up play and knowledge of the game are great and he will be fantastic for the dressing room. He's a winner and can give us something different."

This was expected but probably means Fletcher going t'other way?

Great signing for Burnley. He's a Championship striker guaranteed to get you the goals. Please youv'e got him if im honest.
PremiershipWolf
Sounds as though he's a replacement for someone.
WelshClaret
Not to concerned either way with this one to be honest. I have never really been a fan of his but he has scored goals at this level for a number of seasons so I am not entirely sure why. Iwelumo/Pato/Thommo/Jay Rod - Is that a good enough strike force to get promoted?
Claretdale
Yep looks like Flecher is off them although now't said by the club I just don't think he's better than we already have. Prove me wrong!

SSN has just said we have had a bid accepted for Billy Sharp. Are we building our team from front to back? Isnt it normal to do it the other way round? This is a definite sign that Fletch is off - We dont need 6 strikers in our squad.
Claretdale
Is Iwelumo the same sort of player as Thommo, so looks like Thommo back on the bench also do we know how long a contract has he got.
Fedupclaret
I cant see that we will start Thommo and Iwelumo together. Would say that Iwelumo is slightly better at getting on the end of crosses. Have to say, Adding Sharp to Thommo, Pato and Iwelumo with Jay Rod also in the squad - To me, that is a decent strike force.
Claretdale
Dale I think we can say Iwelumo will be starting because Laws sign him and just as a pointer Cort started every game until Spurs even though I thought he was at least third choice centre half.
Fedupclaret
I'm quietly optimistic about this signing. I think he could be a goos addition. I'm also pleased we signed him outright as it proves to me he is more than a make-weight.
ClaretClaude
Sorry *good addition. Feel free to edit this out tmp.

He's a good signing, if he can stay match fit, in my opinion. Would be happier if we now added Sharp, rather than Hulse, too. Exciting times. Doing it without breaking the bank, which is nice. How much is CI rumoured to have cost?
whentheballmoves
I heard £500 000. Not sure where though.
ClaretClaude
It is believed to be less than the 500k that is being touted around, if we got Billy Sharp as well I would be happy with our forwards assuming Fletch is going? I would like to see some serious money spent on a couple of wingers i.e. Boyd and Driver maybe? ask me who will starting up front for our first match "clueless"

Gives us some more power in the air - perhaps he might score from a corner.
RickersTwickers
Excellent signing(s)! Great goals record for the £ and leaves £ in the bank to hopefully strengthen goalie and back four. Cover for injuries too. Those on less intelligent rival sites who think we will go down again, are frankly, muppets! (just watched last nights prog on BBC big personality test and other half thinks I rate low on "agreeableness" - that comment was to prove it :-)
CrosspoolClarets
Excited about Sharp, too. Let's hope he gets some midfielders (wingers?) and defenders / a keper or two, too. Could give us a decent shout of getting promoted again!
