Turf Titbits: Bikey, Edgar and Blake

Clarets fans I am afraid will not have any side interest in watching the fortunes of Andre Bikey and Cameroon in the 2010 World Cup in South Africa this summer.

You may have miised the news earlier this month that Cameroon manager Paul Le Guen decided not to include Bikey in his initial 30 man squad. Drat!!

Defender, David Edgar spent a period out on loan to Swansea last season and there had been some speculation he might make the move permanent in the summer.

However, Swans chairman Huw Jenkins has ruled out a return according to the local Evening Post this week with Edgar of course having now returned to Turf Moor. This will delight a number of Clarets fans who highly rate the central defender who can also play at left back.

Robbie Blake is reported to still be 50:50 about signing a new contract with the Clarets. The Lancashire Telegraph suggests the sticking point could be the length of the contract. The club have offered the 34 year old a one year deal but it would appear that Blake is seeking a more secure two year contract. It is unlikely the club will be willing to offer a longer contract than that on the table. A decision is expected one way or the other over the next few days.

Blake's decision is certainly dragging on! I hope we can play Edgar more next season; he is quite a good utility player across the back four and we need to get some return for our investment

Glad to see Edgar back at the Turf. Seemed a useful player to me when he got the chance to play.

Does Andre not going to South Africa actually increase our chances of hanging on to him? This, by the way, is one of the topics not covered in comments made today by HRH Claret Charlie in Ze Burnley Legends at Ze World Cup in this site's World Cup Forum. I'm surprised that the Swans aren't interested in Edgar, he played really well for them. Glad he's back though, it'll be interesting to how he'll feature next season. Apart from people thinking that we'll lose Bikey, I haven't heard or read anything about interest from other clubs. Am I missing something here ?
