Rumour Mill- Iwelumo Come What May?

Rumour Mill- Iwelumo Come What May?

Wolves striker Chris Iwelumo could be playing for the Clarets next season whether Steven Fletcher makes a move to Molineux or not.

Reports this week linked Fletcher with a move to Wolves for £7.5 million involving both Iwelumo and keeper, Wayne Hennessey coming the other way on season-long loans.

Chris Iwelumo who denied knowing anything about the proposal earlier in the week was at Turf Moor yesterday according to the Lancashire Telegraph.

The paper also suggests that a deal for the 31-year-old could be done separately.

The Scotland international signed for Wolverhampton Wanderers in July 2008 in a two-year deal after leaving Charlton Athletic during their cost-costing exercise.

Iwelumo struggled with fitness during Wolves Premier League campaign this season and even when fit to play his appearances were limited to the odd match coming off the bench.

He was given a month's loan to Championship side Bristol City in February 2010.

Iwelumo has been a bit of a journeyman over the years. He started his footballing career at St Mirren in August 1996 as a trainee.

Since that time he has played for Danish club, Aarhus Fremad, Stoke City (including loan spells at York City ,Cheltenham Town and Brighton & Hove Albion), German Bundesliga side Alemannia Aachen, Colchester United and Charlton Athletic.

I hope the media reports are wrong, if Fletcher wants to go or the Club want to sell so be it lets get the full asking price and not take players in part exchange that we don't really want.

I dont think Iwelumo is particularly a bad player - and has done well in each of his last 3 champsionship seasons. But, Having resigned Thommo, I am just not sure if we need him and would tend to agree with Fedup.

Dale I'm not saying he a bad player what i was trying to get over was if we sell Fletcher I'd rather spend money on someone like Boyd to me thats a better player for burnley FC, in my view the player we are going to be buying now are for the future i.e. Premiership.

We need two target men, both top of CCC quality, and two strikers, with Jay Rod as backup. Iwelumo would solve the former along with Thommo, we then have Pato and space for one more quick forward - that would allow us to play 442 or 443. I would though like a decent keeper, Hennessey would do, as would Grant, and one blue riband CB signing if Bikey goes as is likely. Like for like replacements for Eagles and Mears if they go too. Then we would be looking at top two. Otherwise - playoffs

443 Crosspool - I think thats the way forward. :-) I agree with you Fedup - I dont think we should bring in Iwelumo when we already have Thommo. Personally - I think Thommo as our target man, with Pato + 1 and Jay Rod as striker number 4 is a good enough combination to get us promoted.

New boy Marney used to play right-back, Iwelumo is not the man for me, let's have a bit of ambition.

Not sure on this one: not a bad player, but hope he doesn't cost too much if we DO sign him, as is 31. Also had that HORROR miss for Scotland against ? Norway ? That said, has experience. However, with him ?and? Thommo up front, the pace would be non-existent. Strange one.
