Marney on Marney

26 year old midfielder, Dean Marney signed from Hull City yesterday for an undisclosed fee to become the Clarets` first senior summer signing. He signed a three-year contract.

Marney has clealy been frustrated playing for Hull this season having suffered with a persistent knee injury and of course also seeing the club relegated along with the Clarets and Pompey.

Talking above his move Marney said:

"Coming to Burnley, winning lots of games and hopefully playing well will be enjoyable.

"I was getting a bit stale at Hull, I needed a fresh start and I`m really looking forward to getting Burnley back in the Premier League.

"I`m sure with the squad we`ve got we can do it.

'Everybody wants to play in the Premier League, it`s regarded as the best league in the world.

'I definitely want to get back and definitely feel I can do it with Burnley.

"It (the Championship) is a really tough league, everyone knows that.

"But with the quality of the squad I`m sure if we all play to the best of our ability we are as good as anyone and I`m sure we will do really well.

"It`s a strong squad. I`m looking forward to pre-season and getting to know the lads, and I`m really looking forward to the challenge. I just can`t wait to get going now."

One area that Marney would like to improve upon his his goal scoring record. He is not a striker of course but has been disappointed by only scoring nine goals in total for Hull in 138 appearances.

"It`s a big part that`s let me down in the last couple of years, he said

The central midfielder continued:

"I look to try to move the ball and pass it, I`ve got a good engine to get up and down, and hopefully I will try to add goals to my game,"
