Rumour Mill-Charlton Keeper, Randolph Linked

The Clarets have been linked with a move for 23 year old Charlton goalkeeper Darren Randolph.

Randolph joined the Addicks from Irish side, Ardmore Rovers in the summer of 2003 and is a former Republic of Ireland Under 21 international. He has also played for the Republic of Ireland B team.

He signed a two year contract with Charlton in 2005 after coming through their youth system; a contract that was subsequently extended until 2011.

Randolph is no stranger to East Lancashire having played for Accrington Stanley on loan at the beginning of the 2005-6 season. He also had a spell at Bury on-loan signing for them in February 2008 but was recalled early. In July 2008, Randolph joined Hereford United on a season long loan

In August and September 2006 he also spent a month on loan at League One Gillingham.

Randolph has found it difficult to break into the Charlton first team after making his debut for them in the last game of the 2006-07 season against Liverpool at Anfield.

The Dublin born keeper has been kept firmly in the shadow of first Nicky Weaver and then Rob Elliot managing just 13 appearances for the Addicks.

With news that Owls keeper, Lee Grant seems keen to remain at Sheffield Wednesday, Burnley may be turning their attention instead to Randolph whilst they wait also to hear whether Brian Jensen has accepted his new offer or not.

Does not sound that experienced enough to be a first choice keeper but could be good back up?

Well, an ex Accy player, got to be a good bet as an understudy. On a free?

Not after a really good keeper then. He doesn't inspire his defence.

Sounds like Jensen!! ;-)

I see Maik Taylor has signed a one-year contract extension at St Andrew's. so he's out the frame now!

as an irish fan, i've seen him numerous times in the u21 side...trust me, you do not want him. not up to even championship backup quality, and has an attitude problem to boot

Seemed to put in a decent performance in the first play off leg against Swindon - whether he is up to being our first choice keeper at present - I dont know.

Was it Stan who said you need to build a team from the back first. So we need the best keeper we can get. Is Darren Randolph the best we can get ? I think we can get a better keeper than him.
