Reserves Will Have Two Homes To Go To!

Reserves Will Have Two Homes To Go To!

The Clarets will play reserve-team football at both Turf Moor and Accrington Stanley next season.

Accrington`s Crown Ground will continue to be the primary venue for Burnley`s home fixtures in the totesport.com reserve league.

But with a new £750,000 pitch being laid at Turf Moor, the Clarets will also play some of their home games on their own ground.

'Because of the finances that we have put forward this summer for the main pitch that should enable us to have more games on that,' said boss Brian Laws.

'It`s harder wearing and therefore it will give us an opportunity to play a number of our reserve games at home, which should benefit everybody.'

With Laws overseeing the formation of a development squad of the club`s young professionals for next season there will be greater emphasis placed on the importance of reserve-team football and the Clarets are keen for the facilities to reflect that.

Last season`s fixture list was badly disrupted by weather problems with Accrington`s pitch struggling to cope.

But the League Two side has also invested in pitch repairs this summer in a bid to improve their playing surface.

And the Clarets are happy to keep playing at Stanley to maintain positive links with their neighbours and to allow supporters to watch Burnley`s second string on their doorstep.

'We have a good relationship with Accrington which we have built over a number of years and it`s important we retain that,' said Burnley Football Club stadium manager Doug Metcalfe.

'We will still be using Accrington as our main reserve area but having invested in the latest technology surface at our own stadium we are potentially in a position to hold more games here, such as for the reserve team when necessary.'

When necessary? Reading between the lines I assume that means if Accy mess-up and can't get the ground ready in time, there will be a greater chance of playing it at Turf Moor than before rather than postponing the game. If not presumably they will issue a Reserve Team's fixture list with the Home games clearly marked Accy or TM?

Could this be a problem for the newly laid pitch at the Turf for next season, we saw the problem last year with the playing surface with the weather and the and the squad training on it.
