Rumour Mill-Sam the Man?

Charlton Athletic's hopes of a return to the Championship were dashed this week following defeat to Swindon in the League 1 play-offs semi final. They beat Swindon 2-1 at the Valley on Monday night in the second leg making the score 3-3 on aggregate but with the game going to penalties it was Swindon who pulled off a dramatic victory winning the penalty battle 5-4.

A number of Addicks players may now be considering their future, hoping to move onto clubs in a higher division.

One such player is Charlton Athletic winger, Lloyd Sam.

Sam,25 is out of contract in the summer and it is understood a number of Championship clubs, including the Clarets could be interested in his services.

QPR, Sheffield United and Leicester join Burnley as the clubs looking at the winger according to Sky Sports. He was also linked to newly-promoted Newcastle United earlier in the season.

Sam is a product of Charlton's youth system and before establishing himself as a regular first team player with them had loan spells out to Leyton Orient, Sheffield Wednesday and Southend United.

His brief spell at Hillsborough was not under Brian Laws. He signed on a one month loan for them under Paul Sturrock in August 2006 and it had been hoped that stay might have been extended. In the end though he managed just four games and returned to his parent club after picking up an injury in September 2006. Brian Laws became manager of Sheffield Wednesday later that year in November 2006.

Now this would be one exciting player to sign-up! We should be able to compete with the other Championship sides too for his signature. We have gone down stronger and have the parachute payments coming through, so surely we should be able to offer him a better deal than those of the other clubs mentioned?

It's not like buying a quarter of sweets , it'll be a long 2/3 month ahead with players weighing up options , agents pushing players , clubs competing for the same players , with everybody trying to get the best deals to suit their own needs , i'd be getting a good supply of toy's !

I saw a Charlton game early in the season on TV and there was a winger they had that impressed me that game. Not sure if it is the same lad but if it is then I think he could be a good signing.

I have had a quick scout about and I am not sure if he plays on the left or right? I watched a video of him on youtube and he seemed to be playing central.

Personally I would like to see Wade start the season as our right winger - in which case we would need someone to go on the left. If he is a right winger - not sure whether he is the player we should be signing or not.

I think it also depends on the cost if he's 25 would there be a fee reguarding the Bosman law if he's out of contract, and do we think he will be ok in the prem if we get promotion.
