Rumour Mill-Sam the Man?
Charlton Athletic's hopes of a return to the Championship were dashed this week following defeat to Swindon in the League 1 play-offs semi final. They beat Swindon 2-1 at the Valley on Monday night in the second leg making the score 3-3 on aggregate but with the game going to penalties it was Swindon who pulled off a dramatic victory winning the penalty battle 5-4.
A number of Addicks players may now be considering their future, hoping to move onto clubs in a higher division.
One such player is Charlton Athletic winger, Lloyd Sam.
Sam,25 is out of contract in the summer and it is understood a number of Championship clubs, including the Clarets could be interested in his services.
QPR, Sheffield United and Leicester join Burnley as the clubs looking at the winger according to Sky Sports. He was also linked to newly-promoted Newcastle United earlier in the season.
Sam is a product of Charlton's youth system and before establishing himself as a regular first team player with them had loan spells out to Leyton Orient, Sheffield Wednesday and Southend United.
His brief spell at Hillsborough was not under Brian Laws. He signed on a one month loan for them under Paul Sturrock in August 2006 and it had been hoped that stay might have been extended. In the end though he managed just four games and returned to his parent club after picking up an injury in September 2006. Brian Laws became manager of Sheffield Wednesday later that year in November 2006.
