So, after a season of many defeats, there is one person who can call himself a winner. The Prediction League 2009/10 is over and congratulations must go to.....drumroll!!
Bigclaret who wins the £50 prize.
Other Prizes go to Barnsey who finishes just 1 point behind in second and claims £25
Two would have shared the third-place prize of £10 with Crosspool and Grimsby Claret both finishing just 1 point further back. However the Editor is feeling generous and will give both a tenner for their efforts!
These four winners have been the front runners for a while and bigclaret in particular has barely left top spot all season.
Comments could be made about how this is an improvement on last season`s effort in the Sheffield Clarets run league, but that would seem cruel!
The Final Table is as follows:
A special mention should be made to Brompton Claret who was the only person to predict more than 10 games and achieve an average of more than 1 point a game. Well done Brompton!
Additionally, Ansdell Claret made the same prediction for approximately 90% of the games and finally obtained his first correct scoreline in the final day victory against Spurs. If at first you don`t succeed. . .
And finally, Couch Potato made the suggestion very early in the season (maybe even pre-season) that predicting a 3-1 defeat for every game could see you collect a successful point haul. If Couch had followed this method, he would have finished joint top and shared the £50 prize!
I hope you have enjoyed the prediction league season. It is something I have enjoyed (after the early season formula issues were scrapped). We will certainly look at running something for 2010/11 if the interest is still there.
For now, why not join the World Cup Prediction League? I believe that, in theory, these results should be easier to predict thus making the scoreline predicted a more important factor in gathering points. Details of this will be provided later in the week. Will bigclaret win again? Or is Brompton the real one to watch? Hope to see you join in!
Message of Thanks from the Editor
I would just like to thank you for doing the PL this year Dale. I am sure all our posters and players of the competition will agree with me that you did a sterling job keeping on top of this. Many thanks once again
