Clarets Choose Far East for Pre-Season Preparation

The first team squad will be off to exotic sunny climes in the summer.

An official announcement today confirms that they will travel to the Far East on the 14th July for a ten day training trip.

They will travel to both Singapore and Bali as part of their pre-season preparations where they will hope to play three friendly matches. The club will confirm details of these games at a later time.

During the Coyle era of course we got used to trips to America and Scotland so this is certainly a new departure.

Wonder how many Clarets avids will be hopping on a Singapore Airlines plane come summer!

Well, in fairness, it beats a Europa League prelim in Kazakhstan :)

Is it part of the sponsorship deal we signed with FUN88 or whatever they're called?
OooDavidEyres
Yes it is DavidEyres. Further down article the club say it is in conjuction with our sponsor's Fun88. Might not be a bad idea, might even sell a few shirts. Hey Man Utd do it!

We go over to Bali a lot as it is the nearest holiday place from Perth (only a 3 and a half hour flight). It's a fantastic place and very cheap so if you can get over there do so. Singapore is great too but very expensive. Liverpool played a friendly game with Singapore last year. We are off to South Africa for the World Cup and then over to Europe (via Singapore) at the beginning of August but might try to slip in a few days in Bali to support the lads in between. A couple of years ago we were walking round a hotel there and my husband had his Burnley shirt on and a few voices yelled "up the Clarets". Turned out there were a group of people from Padiham over for a holiday and Burnley season ticket holders. They sell a lot of fake footy shirts in Bali but only Premier League - they had some B****rd Rovers shirts on special and the stall holder told me no-one ever bought them!! I told him to burn them!! This trip is certainly a long way from the Steam Packet Cup trips to the Isle of Man!!!

Come on OZJEAN lets go the whole hog and get them a bit further south (New South Wales has the word south in it). There should be a bit of limbering up going amongst the Australian clubs and there may be some hidden tallent to plunder from downunder?

Hi AndyHo, I had a discussion with Brendan Flood (via email) suggesting a tour of Oz and he was interested. I wonder who they are playing in Bali as I can't remember seeing a pitch with grass on it! Was wondering if they could pop over and play Perth Glory! I think Burnley should take a look at the talent here - they are cheap, fit well into the English game and a lot have Euro passports. I would start with Tommy Oar, an excellent 18 year old left footed player who has just been picked in Australias World Cup squad - an obvious talent.

From memory there was an ex Burnley player in th final that was played in Perth about 10 years ago but I can't for the life of me think who it was. He came on in the second half and played a fairly crucial role. Also Doug Collins was/is the owner of a McDonalds franchise on the south coast of NSW. Maybe they should get onto them for a few ideas. I agree with Tommy Oar as a player worth a look.
