Not Gud for Suspended Joey!

Burnley Football Club has today suspended midfield player Joey Gudjonsson for two weeks pending a full investigation following alleged comments made in the media.

An Icelandic website quoted Gudjonsson questioning the team spirit at Turf Moor ahead of last Saturday`s 4-1 victory at Hull City.

The news broke after Sky Sports reported that Gudjonsson had been speaking to the Icelandic website called fotbolti.net.

In an astonishing outburst he allegedly told the website:

'He (Brian Laws) lost the dressing room long ago.I think all the players have lost faith in him, the performances say all that has to be said.'

Vital Burnley published an article of the situation last week and you can read further background by clicking this link:

Brian Laws angered by the suggestion said after the Hull City game:

"It`s not difficult to deal with when you get a response like that. The players gave an answer and I`m just disappointed with a player that`s not anywhere near the team."

The midfielder, 29, whose contract with the Clarets expires in the summer, attended a disciplinary hearing at the club this Monday.(12th April)

According to the club press release received by Vital Burnley, Burnley Football Club will be making no further comment.

Not sure exactly what suspended means in that context. I assume it could mean suspended without pay until they complete their investigations. Laws suggests he has been 'nowhere near the team' above which is obviously true in the sense of not making the eighteen. He hasn't since the home game against Chelsea. Does this mean he wont be training with the squad now either if indeed he has been recently anyway? I assume that's also what suspended means

He will be suspended on full pay untill an investigation into the comments is completed , then he will be either fined and re-instated or his contract terminated !

I would not expect him being in the reserves at the turf on Friday against Liverpool

I can think of a few other things, tmp, but they are mostly dangerous and/or illegal.

Surely that would be 'suspended by' CP? lol ;-)

Dictionary corner here just to help you all. Suspend: Hang up, sling, adjourn, defer, delay, hold in abeyance, interrupt, postpone, shelve. keep from falling or sinking in air or liquid, stop temporarily, debar temporarily from a position, privilege etc..... Take your pick....one Jeff Stelling....only one Jeff Stelling

Good enough for him. He won't be here next season , but it's a shame it ended this way. Did he expect any other outcome I wonder?

Listening to Laws on the BBC Sport post-match interview, it is clear Gudjonsson will be off in the summer but that is the first time I have heard it for definite despite assuming it would happen: http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/teams/b/burnley/8613547.stm

If there is to be a 'full investigation' it means that Gudjonsson must have denied saying what it was reported he said otherwise he would just have been dealt with there and then. Probably claimed 'taken out of context' or wrong translation. Laws probably trying to find someone who speaks Icelandic! Either way his number is obviously up at Burnley.

Dont really think this suspension is of any use to anyone ( unless it is saving wages) - he was clearly nowhere near the managers thoughts to play as their have been a couple of occasions since his arrival where we have had no midfielder on the bench with Joey nowhere to be seen.
