Rumour Mill-Williams for Edgar?

Swansea City defender Ashley Williams is interesting Burnley according to media reports.

The rumour first boke on Sunday in The People and speculation has continued this week in the media and on messageboards.

It is reported that Brian Laws sees the experienced Williams as a key player in a new-look defence next season.

Some reports also suggest that defender David Edgar currently on loan at Swansea could be moving in the opposite direction as part of the deal.

Williams is highly regarded by Swansea and boss Paulo Sousa could fight hard to retain him.

He started his career at West Brom as a youth player before joining non-league club Hednesford Town after being released by the Baggies at age 16.

In December 2003, he joined Stockport County and in March 2008, he signed for Swansea City on loan until the end of the 2007-08 season with a view to a permanent deal that summer.

The 25 year old Welsh international central defender signed that permanent deal for Swansea in May 2008 for a fee believed to be about 400,000.

Williams made his international debut for Wales in a friendly against Luxembourg in March 2008 and now has 19 Welsh caps to his name.

He would be a useful player for the back-four having also played ar right back as well as in the centre of defence.

Swansea currently 5th in the Championship could also of course get promoted with the Clarets going in the opposite direction. If there is any truth in this rumour it would be interesting to see if anything changes if one or both of the clubs change leagues!

would be interesting to see if this goes ahead especially if as you say they get promoted and we go down

First I've heard of this, but Williams is solid and would be a brilliant addition to our squad. He's popular to say the least, at the Liberty Stadium, and there'll be a lot of unhappy Swans fans if this comes off. Will only happen if we survive and they fail methinks.

Potentially god signing, but to lose Edgar would be a mistake. Granted we haven't seen much of him this season, but from what we have I think he looks like a good player and perhaps even more so in the championship.

Edgar may well see himself as a Prem player though and would certainly join Swansea if they got promoted and we went down? I think so many will leave BFC in the summer, Laws will have a major rebuilding to do but in a way maybe that is a good thing. We perhaps need to see how he fares with a team he has rebuilt himself with players who will show total loyalty to him. Depending on his budget and that will be key, it will be interesting to see what sort of players come in. If we mean business, surely we have to bring in Championship players that also have the potential to be assets in the Prem should we go up again! I don't think we can afford to go up again with Championship level players at the limit of their capability unless we intend to spend far more on Prem quality players once up there

I would like to keep hold of Edgar as David says we haven't seen much of him but what we have I have rated him especially at OT.
