Lafferty Wins First Cap

Burnley striker Kyle Lafferty has completed his whirlwind season, by earning his first international cap for Northern Ireland against Uruguay on Sunday.

The 18-year old, who broke into the first team picture at Turf Moor towards the end of the season, came on for the last quarter of an hour, as Lawrie Sanchez's side lost went down to a Fabian Estoyanoff wonder strike on 35 minutes.

Clarets' stars Michael Duff and new signing Steve Jones also played in the game in New Jersey, which was the first of NI's two game tour of the US.

All three players will be looking to add to their international caps when the Northern Irish take on Romania in Chicago on Friday.

It is a great news that Laferty aged 18 is now a full international . It is players of his pedigree that will make achieve greatness again . Northern Ireland has provided many great players to Burnley . History is repeating and this is a good and positive sign .
