Clarets centre back, David Edgar has today (23rd March)joined Championship side Swansea City in a one-month emergency loan deal and is expected to make his debut for the Swans at Blackpool tonight.
Brian Laws talking about the deal said:
'I think it's a great chance for David to get some games because he's obviously frustrated.
'He wants to be in the team just as much as anybody else.
'I can't fit him in at this moment in time but on the emergency loan it does allow us to recall him after 28 days.
'David is very much in our thoughts but I think getting him first-team games with Swansea, who are playing really good football and in a position where they are winning consistently, is a fantastic opportunity.
'I think it's a win-win situation. We can only benefit from it and so will David.
'We will be keeping close tabs on him and will be going to watch him tonight in the game at Blackpool.'
It is also possible the loan could be extended until the end of the season if both clubs agree after the initial 28-day period.
Owen Coyle signed the 22 year old Canadian in July 2009 after agreeing a four-year-deal. At the time,he arrived on a Bosman after refusing to sign a new contract with newly relegated Newcastle United but because of his age a compensation package had to be agreed between the two clubs
Burnley and Newcastle announced they had agreed to a transfer fee of £300,000 for Edgar in December last year thus avoiding a tribunal hearing to settle the matter.
Edgar has struggled to make an impression in the back-four for Burnley this season and under Coyle was limited to one start in the Carling Cup game away to Hartlepool.
He has had more chance to impress under Brian Laws and made his league debut for the Clarets against Manchester United at Old Trafford in January this year and also made the starting eleven for the league game at Fulham when he started at left-back. His only other start was in the FA Cup defeat against Reading at the Madejski Stadium but he has been named on the bench a few times this year as well without being brought on.
