Club Statement on Laws Sacking Rumour in Sun

Burnley FC have been quick to issue a club statement denying that the club are looking for a replacement for Brian Laws as reported in the Sun today.

Our article 'The Sun Goes Down on Laws' this morning discussed the claims being made in the Sun and you can click this link for the background:

There is now however, as predicted a club statement on the Official Website and we repeat this below

Club Statement on Official Website

Burnley Football Club can confirm that contrary to a national media report, the club is NOT seeking a replacement for first team manager Brian Laws.

The Sun newspaper today alleges that club chairman Mr Barry Kilby is in the process of looking for a replacement for Brian, who was only appointed manager in January 2010.

However, Mr Barry Kilby insisted:

'This is a ludicrous, irresponsible, damaging and inaccurate piece of journalism.

'We are not in the process of looking for a replacement for Brian and everyone involved with Burnley Football Club is putting every ounce of effort into staying in the Premier League.'

Burnley Football Club will make no further comment on this matter.

Hopefully that will be the end of the matter although no doubt some fans will think this is the dreaded Chairman's kiss of death approval

I for one was one that thought the board chose a manager in haste , however Manchester united where on the verge of saking Alex Feurerson all thos years ago, look he is still thera and what a record Give Brian Laws a chance

We shouldn't sack him, but lets be honest Brian Laws is and never will be Alex Ferguson.

For such a normally soft-spoken man as Barry Kilby to speak like that is something to behold. I think Brian Laws has gone about tidying up in a very professional and responsible manner a lot of mess that had been left by his predecessor. I also think he has worked hard to change the way the team play, as almost everyone was asking for. The results have not yet followed. On this site, and in the fanzine, we all wallow in our difficulty getting over the appalling manner in which Coyle quit and deserted, and the hypocrisy that we had fallen for. The players have made sterling efforts not to let that affect them too. But they are people, not zombies or machines, and it undoubtedly has affected them. We want them to stand tall, be proud and show us that they understand what loyalty means, even if the man who lied about it didn't. If that's what we expect of them, and of our manager, and of our Board, then we need to do the same thing too. I remain a member of Brian Laws' Claret and Blue Army. Up the Clarets!

Can't see what anyone could have done any differently to Brian, I wasn't overjoyed by his appointment but I'm warming to him despite the results.

Glad to hear that this piece of nonsense has been buried early, well done Barry Kilby. We can now let the man carry on with what is already a big ask , without distractions like this. Come on Brian, we're behind you all the way, hopefully to survival but beyond if neccessary.

I cannot see us sacking him to be honest. Were not a club that has a record of sacking managers willy nilly. We tend to stick with managers and give them a chance, which is quite right. He deserves a chnace at least, plus when he was appointed the sounds the board were making was he'd be a good manager if we did go down. So I just can't see this.

Looks like the Sun have more egg on their face, online article link no longer works! Bet Kilby had a right go at them!
turfmanphil
If the weblink has gone done, we may also see The Sun grovel tomorrow, as it is as good as admitting that they had no evidence on which to base their speculation. That may, or may not, be the end of it.

I think we should ask Mr Dixon as he knows everything......Please can someone but his paper and tell me what is going on!
VinRogue
Buy his paper? There was no newsprint on the bog roll last time I looked? Things have improved since the sheets of lavvy paper of 50s in the outside loo when the Mirror was softer on the arse than the Telegraph!
turfmanphil
Then there was the progression to that shiny paper that used to slide halfway up your back if you weren't careful. It didn't leave your arse black, but was a brown back preferable? Anyway, back to the Sun bog roll . . . .

I really hope Burnley supporters get right behind him and the lads on Saturday. The away support for the games under Laws has been second to none and if there is going to be a shaft of light, it could do with coming in the match ahead of the derby.
cubanclaret
That shiny paper was it called Isol or Isal and was in a green wrapper...shiny because it didn't get damp in our outside loo (long drop), we used that and the Mirror in the summer!!!!
VinRogue
Don't start me off on the damp newspaper for god's sake. Yes, it was Izal with a z if I remember correctly and we used the Daily Post in the summer ourselves. Agree 100% with you cuban, the support really needs to be behind them. Wigan played really well against Villa and this isn't going to be a walkover, but then again we can play really well as well. All we've got to do is find the form again and anything is still possible . We've been written off by the press and the pundits so in a sense we've got nothing to loose and I really, really hope the lads start to relax and really go for it and play like they used to a couple of months back. If they can find the OT form, this could be our first away win, we'll have to wait and see ! I remember watching Bangor City play Wigan regularly in the Northern Premier League , they've come a long way since then.
