We Get Nugent Back!

Portsmouth have agreed to extend David Nugent's loan to the end of the season.

Nugent had returned to Fratton Park after his loan expired following the Bolton game last Tuesday night. Sky Sports reported he was training with his Pompey team mates on Friday ahead of their Manchester City clash at Eastlands yesterday. In the end he was not named in their eigthteen.

Brian Laws had always made it plain he was keen to extend the loan and his persistence seems to have paid off despite Portsmouth dragging their heels and refusing to make a decision.

It had been thought we might have lost out especially with Nugent back at Portsmouth and there was always a fear he could be sold to make some money for the financially stricken club.

Thankfully this saga is now at an end and hopefully Nugent will be able to now concentrate on helping Burnley FC avoid the drop before making a decision on his long-term future in the summer.

Not sure if I am either surpised or happy now!! :-)

I'm happy. Some people don't rate him, fair enough, but I still think he's really talented and only a matter of time before he starts to put them away. Let's hope that Fletcher's stunning goal is the first of many for all our strikers.

Dont know what to think, David Nugent may feel more settled now and may recapture the type of form that made him a 6millon rated player, lets hope & pray so

Looks like that's the end of plan B, i.e. going in for Hulse? Let's hope Nugent can start scoring some goals for us and keep us in the promised land

Just wonder if Laws will still be after another striker before window closes in three hours time eg Hulse loan? Yeah I think I am happier having Nugent back, just wonder if all this uncertainty has affected his performance? He now has a chance to ditch the smirking, get his head down and start scoring

Speculation over! Hope the lad settles down now and regains some form. I feel (hope) he has more to offer than we have thus far seen.

Laws and Bfc said over the w/e that another striker would be coming in IF we didn't sign Nugent. Better the devil we know? Attention now shifts towards a midfielder, I reckon.
Couch Potato
I think you are right CP !

Meanwhile, who have Bolton signed? Weiss on loan, Holden from Houston and...

Welcome Jack Cork !

Not that anyone should think that I am bitter, or have failed to move on, just because I mentioned Bolton...

Lets hope he comes up with the goods, GOALS

Interesting point about Bolton, I thought Coyle had gone there because of a much bigger budget to sign new players. Not exactly set the world alight yet in fact we seemed to have done far better. No word on Wilshere yet either
turfmanphil
Wilshere was an unused sub at Anfield on Saturday !

Nugent has missed some sitters but not as many as Fletch. He does seem to create chances and I think he adds some life to our front line. I don't think his body language is worrying (laughing all the time etc) - it's just his personality. Starting him will help him no end, surely we have to go 4-4-2 in the home games, all of which are easily winnable (5 from the bottom half who only have 6 away wains between them and the 3 with the worst away record in the top 7).
CrosspoolClarets
p.s. By easily I mean easy to imagine us winning them, not winning them will be easy !!!!
CrosspoolClarets
I agree with Crosspool about Nugents body language. Some players play with a smile on their face, some don't. Nugent obviously loves playing but he'll be next to bloody useless to us if he doesn't score some goals. I've had enough of "willing front runners."

Must have missed the Wilshere thing! Thats what happens when you are bombing up and down between Lancs and Cambs. Just read it in one of Sundays, in general though I thought Bolton would have been far more active after all the hype

Couldn't care less what happens at Bolton - what Laws has done today is freshen up a squad at Turf Moor that had been left very stale by the previous incumbent. Am not convinced about Nugent but am happy for him to prove me wrong as soon as he likes !

We have a big squad for Burnley, We will need it for the run in.

I feel more optimistic than I have since OC left I have to say. Laws has used the window well...presuming Alexander and McCann are not too badly injured we have a better squad now than we have had at any time all season. Genuinely have options all over the park. The real challenge for Laws now is to ensure he knows his best team. We don't want to be chopping and changing every week. I think Saturday is genuinely our first "must-win" of the season.

we just cant get rid of the twąt, and on top of that he cant even play against us at your place, we were counting on that
Super Bock 1898
No, but Fletcher, Eagles, Paterson, Blake, Thomson and Elliot can, as well as Nimani. My sympathies for your current plight SuperBock , but look for no quarter at Turf Moor, for **** all shall be given.
WelshClaret
Glad he's back however, I was getting a tad excited about the prospect of Hulse. But like most have said better the devil you know and hopefully he will put in some good performances and stat hitting the back of the net.

Welcome Back Nuge - Although frustrated with some of the chances being missed ( by Fletch also) i would to have strikers in the chances to miss them than not getting the chances to miss. A hat trick on Saturday please David.
